Not only pretty rare, but pretty pricey. There’s one on eBay right now for cool grand!

There is a keying input on the 6 pin power plug, off the top of my head I’m not sure which pins, but it states this in the manual... I modified my power lead so there is an additional cable comes out with the 2.5mm plug to put into my KX3... You can also use it on the WARC bands by selecting the next highest low pass filter... 30m on the 20m setting, 17m on the 15m setting and 12m on the 10m setting... Works fine... A great little amp, but quite rare now a days, at least they are in VK. There is also a similar Kenwood amp, the TL-120 from memory! Cheers for the nice video, David VK2NU

@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures Looking at the back of the amp, the centre bottom pin on the power plug is the keying input.... The left two pins (top and bottom) are '-ve' and the right pins (top and bottom) are '+ve' 13.8V. The top centre pin is unused I believe. So for the KX3 and I assume the KX2, the keying input goes to the 'ring, connector on the on the 2.5mm input, and the sleeve connection on the 2.5mm plug goes to one of the -ve pins. The tip of the 2.5mm plug is for a 'General Purpose 3V signal'. There is a menu item in the KX2/3 you need to enable to then key the amp. This is the 'ACC2 IO' menu item. This should be set to 'LO=PTT'. The PTT switch on the back of the amp should be set to '-' as the relay in the Elecraft closes to ground in the LO=PTT mode. Good luck, I 've watching some of your Vid's and keep up with the SOTA!! David, VK2NU

Yaesu might want to combine this app with an auto-tune antenna tuner that works with or without the amplification turned on.

If you can find one would work fine , you would just need to not do full 20 watts

Have you tried this on the IC-705 yet?
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures3 жыл бұрын
DireHavok, no I don't have a 705 , but a buddy just got one that I could probably try . It will work there is no connection to the radio the way I have it setup other than coax. I have seen people have trouble setting up the 705 with other amps but this one is like the old CB amps it senses the output and has a delay switch fast and slow works great. I will try and borrow his 705 and do a video on it with this amp, thanks for watching!

Does anyone offer a kit or updated plans to build this amplifier?
@raithjames860 Жыл бұрын
Just located an FL-110. Is this safe to use with an IC-705. I recall seeing another video involving a 50watt chinese amp that had to be modified to prevent power feeding back into the radio. Just wondering if this is a concern with this amp?
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures Жыл бұрын
Yes just hook up coax you it and it will sense the rf and work just fine, no need for a keying cable

I got the mxp50m amplifier from ebay and it works very well with my yaesu ft-817nd. Mine came with a din plug to make the keying cable to control the amp.
@R5CX4 жыл бұрын
please tell me how you connected КХ2 to this amplifier? Do you use only one cable from the transceiver to the amplifier UHF to BNC to work in the SSB, and also inform the original power connector on the amplifier or do you use only two + and - pins?
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures4 жыл бұрын
The amplifier senses RF from the radio, so coax from the radio to the amp and from the amp to the antenna. Hooking radio to amp is just like hooking the radio to a swr/power meter except more power out. For power I have the original plug and not sure how many pins it uses and I have a Anderson power pole on the other end. I hope this helps

LOL.If I want 100 watts from a mobile radio I use my ICOM 7000 & if I want QRP Power from a mobile radio I use my ICOM 703 PLUS.I did not buy a QRP Radio to run an amplifier.I could just turn the output power down on my 7000 to QRP Power as well.It appears that some people really don’t want to actually run QRP Power they just want to tell everyone that they have a QRP Radio? LOL 🤣😂🎙
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures2 жыл бұрын
1OFGODSOWN, yes, I do the same, I hardly ever hook up my amp to a QRP radio unless at home and want 100 watts from that radio. If I go qrp I take the kx2 out and use it. I have multiple radios I can use 100 or 5 watts. This was just to show new Hams that if you maybe bought a QRP radio as a first radio that you can add an amp just like you can add an amp to a 100 watts radio.

@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures I Love my ICOM 703 PLUS but if I could only have either it or the ICOM 7000 I for sure would take the 7000 without hesitation.I only purchased the 703 PLUS because I don’t want to remove my 7000 from my RAM 1500 to use for portable operating.

Na, I just really like my 818, so having more ways to optionally use it is good.
