Hello 151 SC, nice classic rig and will run great on SSB. Looks to be in great shape. Just keep an eye out on the tubes and "caps". probably bring it to your local technician for a yearly checkup. I do believe the 25Khz/100Khz switch is for the bandwidth using a filter to make it more narrow and the RF ATT switch will reduce your receive by a certain amount (20 dB or less), see manual for how many dB it will reduce it. Enjoy your Yaesu (and all your others) and hope to talk with you one day on the band. 73 from 770- RI.

This is one of the first "hybrid" radios. The receiver section and much of the low stage transmit sections are solid state and need no warm up time. The heater switch lights the filaments of the 12BY7A driver tube and the 6JS6C final tubes. These need a minute or so to warm up before transmitting. Keep your tune up time short! The final tubes will blow if you run them mistuned too long at high power. They are expensive and not easy to find as they have been out of production well over 35 years.

I electrocuted myself on one of those Ft-101's once. It was a freak accident and a bit of a long story but I'm luck to be alive to tell you about it. I like old tube rigs and have several of them but I'll never own a 101 again because of my mishap.

The RF ATT reduces strong signals and the 25 khz 100 khz switch when on so you can calibrate the tuning dial , the Carifier moves the receiver freq for example it a station is off freq and it moves the receiver to freq he is on without changing the transmitter freq, and the Heater switch switches on the driver filament voltage an plate voltage and the 2 output tube filament voltage and the plate voltage

@kevinmccool3719
@kevinmccool3719 3 жыл бұрын
You have the entire 101b setup with all accessories except maybe the station monitor scope. If you ever plan on getting into ham radio that 101b is a really good starter radio and can still perform beautifully if the alignment is good. Be careful tuning it up as the output tubes 6js6c can't take long keydown periods and are pricey to replace. I've got a 101b 101e hear and still use them periodically. I was very young when these units came out and as a teenager and getting my ham ticket I used to drool over the older guys in my area that had these radios. I would hang on to it as finding good working ones is getting harder every day. 73s #15 in MS on 38lsb.

Nice radio, well built, but like you said, I also am more a modern day guy. How far back in technology do we want to go.....from wiki...."In ancient China, soldiers along the Great Wall sent smoke signals its beacon towers to warn one another of enemy invasion.[1][2] The colour of the smoke communicated the size of the invading party.[1] By placing the beacon towers at regular intervals, and situating a soldier in each tower, messages could be transmitted over the entire 7,300 kilometres of the Wall.[1] Smoke signals also warned the inner castles of the invasion, allowing them to co-ordinate a defence and garrison supporting troops. " To me CB and skip does it for me.

Brother if you like sideband, which I've seen you use on many videos, then why is this radio "not for you"? Dude expand your horizons, learn about clean audio (modulation is not the word to use), enjoy the quirks of that historic radio while your signal travels through the air being amplified by tube finals (it's a hybrid, it's mostly a transistor radio with only tube finals). Open it up and marvel at the way it has the circuits on cards like a personal computer. Way ahead of it's time. I get that you appreciate it, but get a license, become a ham, and expand your horizons and learn to love vintage radios. LEARN about electronics and how and why propagation works. Learn how to behave on the amateur radio bands, it's awesome. If you like radio, you should learn everything about it. And you should value vintage radios and make them "FOR YOU" ... use them. Love them.
