YAESU FT-747 THE PLASTIC FANTASIC DOES IT AGAIN!

Hi all, Sunday Arvo out in the back yard, my little Yaesu FT 747 HF radio and a home brew OCF dipole about 15 feet of the ground got me to Madeira Island, 15595 kilometers away. Madeira Island is of the coast of Portugal in the Atlantic Ocean.
No height, no might, no worries. Height and power myth Busted! 😀

That is the kind of radio I want to have. It is very simple, does not have too many knobs and switches and not menu driven. It may not be high tech but it still does the job just like those very expensive radios and that is it communicate.

The reason I said that, is because, I'm new to hf and I have worked with someone and he was using an Icom IC-7610 and I was just using a President HR2510 and the QSO went just fine. He was transmitting 300 watts while I was only at 20 watts with a distance of well over 9,000 kilometers between us. Well, that's just my opinion.

Alot of the time you dont need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to make contacts. That whole set up cost about $ 350.00 USD. Welcome to the hobby, Solar cycle 25 is yet to really kick in yet, another 3 -4 years till it peaks.

@@vkradio1656 I couldn't agree more with you sir. You are absolutely correct. For now, I'll work on my yagi because I have learned, correct me, a lot of hams says, it's all in the antenna system and I believe they are right. If I can make contacts using just a rotary dipole, what more if it's a yagi with just the same hr2510. Thank you sir for welcoming me into the hobby. All the best and 73's.

I'm using a plastic fantastic on loan from a friend and on Saturday I made 6 contacts in Japan and one in Belize! EFHW 40m in my backyard and an auto-tuner makes it all work nice. How are you powering it out there?
