That is the radio I finally got back in February got mine from r&l electronics. I really like it I don't have much time to get my rf fix as much as I want work keeps getting in the way 73

The DNR is very effective, but if you combine it with the NB and ATT, it makes it even quieter! I purchased the five shark ham sticks for 10, 15, 20, 40 and 75 m, And they will be used with a try mag mount on the roof of my truck. obviously, I'll be using this radio as a mobile unit. I also ordered the mAT-30 automatic tuner. Thanks for the informative video..👍

Thanks Paul. Have fun! I don't like to talk much so I would rather be at my bench working or playing with something. Soon I will be rebuilding the Siemen's Hall-Effect sensor controller fan motor in my Tek 2465A DV scope since the fan started making a little rattling sound occasionally. That should be interesting! While I'm in there I may as well install a heatsink on the Horizontal output IC U800 and replace a bunch of caps. I was hoping the fan motor would hold out until I had a digital scope, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

You will get to know the workings of your scope very well. I wish you luck.

I don't believe in luck, but thanks. I replaced the memory back-up battery already, but the scope looked so clean and brand new inside that I didn't mess with anything else. I could not find one single speck of dust inside this scope. It's like it spent most of it's life boxed up and sitting in the top of a non-smokers closet. If the fan motor looks brand new also, I might just try oiling it and see if that's all that is wrong with it.

I have been following your channel for while now. I recently decided to take the ham exam (E-License or novice level in Europe). Not passed though. However I am planning on equipment. Since I live in an Appartement a decent Antenna rig is not an option. So my plan is to set up a bicycle-portable rig. I am unsure whether the yaesu ft 818 or the 891 is the better choice. The 891 seems more modern but drains more battery power. The 818 seems outdated but has more bands. The Icom is out of budget for me. Hard to decide. Anyhow: your review helps a lot. Hope to meet you in the band sometime.

I would go with the 891. It is feature packed, and can be computer or tablet controlled.

Are you still using your mAT-30 tuner? And do you think it is still a good value at 160.00 US? Or would you purchase another tuner at this point? Thank you for your time

I still have it. I think it is a good value.

What kind of battery system will you be using doing POTA? Really like my Ft-891.

I just use a 12V SLAB. i think the 891 is a steal @ $634 from DX Engineering.

have they fixed the switching from USB and LSB issue? can you easily switch from USB to LSB on any band now or do you have to do weird menu work around stuff?
@learnelectronics5 жыл бұрын
I had no problems switching.
@51nw5 жыл бұрын
but the mode option just says ssb, when you choose the ssb mode does it then ask you upper or lower? or does it choose automatically for you depending on the band?@@learnelectronics
@learnelectronics5 жыл бұрын
It switches on the band and is smart enough to know that data modes are USB. My solution to getting the most out of this excellent radio is Ham Radio Deluxe. It has sliders for nearly every function. And you can create buttons for options they didnt think of.

Cory you go into the main menu, big whoop. Welcome to Yaesu 1 o 1

hi . Could you tell me what is the bandwidth of this transceiver, I've heard it was only 2.4khz , is it true ? 73
@learnelectronics4 жыл бұрын
It's listed as 2.4 or better for ssb/cw. So they don't specify a maxiumum. In digital mode it's full open.
