@@BrekMartin The best I could do was to get TX HF continuous from 1.6Mhz to 30Mhz then transmit again 50Mhz to 54Mhz. There is a gap between 26Mhz to 28Mhz. I can listen continuously from 30Khz to 199.95 Mhz on all modes. Then I can listen from 400 Mhz to 479.995 Mhz. But 2 meters is still 144 to 145.99 and 70cm is 430 to 439.99. I guess it can be used for 2 meter and 70 centimeter sideband and AM, with some FM simplex on strange lower parts of those hands. It can also be used for HF. Oh well. I can get a cheap TYT to fill in the rest. It is a disappointment. The television option is worthless because it is analogue, so I disabled that. It is a crippled unit. It has plenty of power for a small package, though. 125 watts to 140 watts HF, 100 watts 6 meters, 55 watts 2 meter FM and SSB, 70 centimeters is 37 watts FM and 50 watts SSB 70cm. I am disappointed.

That's very interesting, thank you so much. I'm slightly surprised that this information isn't more widely available. I presume that this radio doesn't store any soft service adjustments or "calibration" constants in it's memory that might get erased when you do a full reset? Also would you mind confirming what the new TX frequency ranges are after doing this mod? For example, is 2M extended up to 148MHz (which could be useful in some regions). Do you have the USA or EU model; I understand they have different firmware. Thanks.

I was a bit disappointed to find out that it doesn't really expand any of the other frequency bands. I was hoping for 440-450 to be unlocked, but alas no! Could you please confirm this was the same after you performed the mod? Thanks, Paul

Paul Atherton hi Paul, yep the VHF UHF frequencies are locked by CPU. There is no hardware mod. ☹️☹️

@@mike-M0MSN According to the supplier, there is a hardware mod to convert the radio to US spec, which would expand the UHF freq range to 450MHz, but he advised me not to attempt it (even if I did know what was required to do this) as he says that it screws up the HF bands (not sure how as he didn't expand on this). This makes sense as there are several variations of this radio for different world regions which each have variations in their ham bands - I suspect different jumper bridging would achieve this but no idea which and I wouldn't want to risk it personally given the cost of this radio.
