thank you for the video, on my side icom ic-7300 with one Q5 tri band transverter, 75w on VHF, 50 watts on 220MHz and 50W on uhf band. works very well. I will order one more Q5 transverter for my FTDX10 also. thank you for showing you setup, 73, Gilles

I keep looking at the Q5 transverter. I wonder why the FTDX10 dose not show the correct frequency? I would think a modern radio would to the conversion. Nice setup and looks like fun.

Yes, another operational niggle of the 10 unfortunately, albeit minor. Performs well though 👍🏻

I have an ftdx10 and use it with a Mehta pro transverter. It's a superb Rx and tx but has annoying drawbacks. I have to use an attenuator because there's no low power output. Ergonomics are terrible compared to ICOM ( I had a 7300 and have a 9700 so I know). It's a good contest radio because of it's strong signal handling which is noticeable and it's very versatile with its 6m and 4m ability. It's cheap for what it is. If you can live with the ergonomics and lack of rear panel action, it's great When I look at radios these days I look at the rear panel first ...73 de G0LBK

Yes, a good HF rig and a good transverter is as good as it gets (+ optional good PA).

Hi Paul. All very bespoke. The push up mast was a second-hand bargain at the local club. Another local amateur made the drive-on plate/rotator cage to my design…. and finally the rotator is from the late 70s/early 80s, so quite a unique setup in my case, but replicable using similar kit 👍🏻

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge as I'm as newbie but how can you tell that the frequency is 145.500 when the radio display shows 29.500.

No problem. The rig is on 28Mhz (10m band) and depending upon the transverter used, it may convert this 10m band up to 6m, 4m, 2, 70cm and so on. Some rigs like the Kenwood TS-2000 are able to change their display to reflect the transverter frequency, whereas in my case the FTDX10 doesn't, so you just have to remember that on say a 2m transverter, 28.300 is 144.300 and 29.500 is 145.500 and so on. Easy to get used to once you're using it. If say working an SSB contest on 2m, then you'll be around the SSB frequencies centred on 144.300 calling frequency, so the rig being .300 or .325 or .275 are the figures you look at and the 28 isn't a factor. You don't even think about it in use....hope this helps!

Yes, it’s a direct relationship. So 28.000 = 144.000 and 29.000 = 145.000. The SSB calling frequency of 144.300 becomes 28.300. It’s straightforward once you get used to it 👍🏻Some other rigs have a menu option to change the rig display to allow for the transverser. I think the Kenwood TS-2000 does this. Shame the Yaesu doesn’t, but no big issue really. Thanks 👍🏻

when purchasing a transverter i see all the crazy options and i have no idea what to choose. Could you go thru the options when purchasing one?

Hi Mike, I know what you mean, however if you look at the Q5 site as an example, for their transverters they give a list of options to select on purchase, but they also explain what each one of them are. This covers IF, PTT, RF, drive level and so on. I found their site very helpful. You can then use this info to increase your knowledge and confidence on buying options. Good luck! 👍🏻

I sold my dx10 after a year, I just couldn't live with the ergonomics/interface. Great rig, just not for me. Out of interest, did you consider the 9700 before purchasing the dx10?
