i love the little smirk at 9:34, like "eh, you like that, right?" It's nice to see dancers show personality but also reactivity to what is happening around them. It's so easy to get into this zone where you shut everything out, which is not great not just because it can make you rush or late but also because you want to interact with people sharing the stage and the audience, you know? So much better for everyone all around if you are tuned into your surroundings. Some of the other dancers did have that glassy, over-concentrated look to them, and I don't blame them one bit for it, but it's impressive Yuma is able to be so level-headed at this stage in his career. He's only 15!!!

It seems odd to me that the girl at 4:49 won first place... she seemed to really struggle with bringing her foot into a correct coupe position (it was overcrossed) and maintaining her turnout while coming down from releve. She also didnt balance very long... makes me wonder if she won because of her good ballet body and feet

@sarahlane82146 жыл бұрын
@@TristanSimpson Tristan Simpson Alright... i actually said that she has good feet... and honey YAGP doesnt watch classwork, they just watch the variation. And this variation did not deserve a win. I stand by what I said. She did not show strong technique in this variation. Im sure she is an excellent student and performer but in this variation, she did not show clean coupe position or turn out.
@sarahlane82146 жыл бұрын
@@TristanSimpson HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Does "struggle to bring her foot into a correct coupe position and maintain her turnout" sound like a phrase from someone that doesnt know ballet? I trained ballet from age 6 to age 18, went on to dance with a professional company in my state, and TAUGHT ballet for 3 years before I quit to pursue my college degree. I also competed in YAGP myself for 3 years, and no the judges DID NOT watch the class. But sure, tell me how much more you know about ballet. What I said wasn't incorrect: she DID struggle to find coupe and she DID struggle to maintain her turnout. Frankly even if the rest of the variation was perfect that does not deserve a gold medal! But thanks for your opinion. Bye bye ✌
@sarahlane82146 жыл бұрын
@@TristanSimpson imagine getting so pressed about someone making a valid observation (you literally cannot deny that she didnt do a proper coupe and that her turnout was not being kept) that you feel the need to attack them. Hope you find your inner happiness soon so that you don't have to put other people down 😊 and btw, dont call me "sweetie." Girls under the age of 16 should NOT be allowed to perform Odile's variation. If the variation is to be danced in character, and it should, even in a sterile and vapid ballet competition, then the choreography and the suggestive nature of the role is far too adult for eleven year olds to be dancing. Preteens have no business tackling "mature adults" material like Odile. Forgive me for being old fashioned.

Agreed, it's easy to forget that ballet is a form of storytelling and some pieces are just inappropriate for children to perform.

what about dances like Latin dance? Many moves are suggestive in nature, but you can't delay training till the moves are appropriate for the young dancers. They just kind of copy what they are told to do without fully understanding it.
@avesraggiana6 жыл бұрын
J You’re hitting at a subject on which my opinion differs from the vast majority of more permissive and more casual observers. I don’t believe it’s appropriate for young girls to learn highly sexualised dance forms like some types of Latin dance, jazz, or pole dancing. Call me puritanical but young girls aping moves from the more adult side of human experience, regardless of their awareness of the suggestive nature, just seems like making young girls grow up too fast. It also seems just a little creepy. Again, I fully admit that this is just my hang up. In any case, ballet is a great dance form with which to start. Even if you move on to other types of dance when you get older, you will always bring with you the core strength and sense of line that ballet cultivates in you.

totally agree! the sexualisation of very young girls needs to stop.

Mostly for those of you critiquing the dancers, #1 just remember, They Are Real People; #2 learn the variations (see if maybe that coupe should be crossed O.o); #3 I dare you to try to get that good, instead of hiding behind a computer screen whining about various placings, who does which variations, etc. You should be celebrating how beautifully these people danced and how hard they worked to get where they are now, not pointing out little mistakes that they are probably still beating themselves up about. People a lot more experienced and knowledgeable than I'm assuming the majority of you, placed these dancers. And last but not least, yes, I have done most of these variations, but I guess I'll leave it to you to decide what was a mistake and what wasn't since "youtube viewers" are judge and jury. Feel free to comment/reply but know I won't be reading or responding, I actually have a life.

I agree.. it's okay for 11 yos to start pointe gently if they have well grown and strong feet but the level these kids are at they must have been training en pointe a while😯😯 they will have very painful feet when they r older probably, I hope they r ok
@rachelwei22866 жыл бұрын
dancing on its perfectly fine for them to be on pointe. There’s no magical age to start pointe. Beginner pointe dancers also progress faster than some people think. These kids are probably all in some sort of training program where they dance and train everyday. That means they most likely have pointe class everyday and teachers to help train them and hone their skills. Outside of class they probably stretch and strengthen on their own. All of them shown are steady on their feet and that shows that they have the proper strength to go on pointe. Some may also be twelve, because they might’ve had birthdays after YAGP registration.
