I know next to nothing about ballet. I am a orchestra musician so I’m usually in the pit. Having said that, the ability of ballerinas to dance on pointe shoes fascinates me. Ms. Osipiva’s shoes look different to me, almost like they are collapsing while she is dancing. Does anyone see the same?
@zeynepkymet46734 жыл бұрын
Thecatspajamas891 You’re right! Osipova almost always wears beaten up shoes. In ballet people place an unreasonable emphasis on arched metatarsals, which Osipova doesn’t naturally have, so my guess is that she prefers softer shoes because it’s much easier to point your feet in them.

I'm not saying that you're incorrect or that you're being rude to those of us who aren't trained the Russian way. . . but there are so many different styles of ballet that it's impossible to compare, and the way that people are trained determines a lot about how they dance.

The Russian dancers were lovely, but so were some of the others. Not all really did the variation they danced justice. Ballet should be about the artistic interpretation of the particular role.

@SlpBeauty3333 жыл бұрын
They were all good but I noticed that the Russians seemed to have costumes that were not helping. Ekaterina in La Esmeralda? Her skirt flops up and it's distracting from her performance. Same with Anastasia Stashkevich in Coppelia. Her skirt has the same issue. It's like there's a skirt over her tutu and it's not a flattering line. The color is also not the most flattering color. It's a shame because it's not their fault but it is distracting from their performance. Not all of the Russians had bad costumes but the ones that were bad were really bad. For example, Nina's costume in the Golden Age enhances her performance. Her lines look clean and the color fits the more modern set and choreography.

Personally she may be superb technically but she has absolutely no instincts regarding acting,, musicality or individual expression. Every move, every head tilt, every facial expression, everything is calculated and plotted out for an effect. To me there’s no intrinsic artistry behind her absolutely perfect technique. She also tAkes her rubato over the limit. A great balance is definitely to be admired. We all know by now that Nela can balance indefinitely - no reason to be indiscriminately proving it.

So many talented and beautiful dancers- incredible! And each has their own style. I really loved the lightness of Nikisha Fogo - she made each jump look so effortless. At this level, I do think "the best" is very subjective because it does come down to personal preference. And even some choreography is better suited to some styles depending on the character played, so it is hard to compare. Still we like to watch certain dancers more than others, just as certain singers touch our hearts more than others. :) we're very fortunate to have such talent and dedication in such a difficult art like ballet.

Where was Olga Smirnova? I saw her do Giselle last year at the Bolshoi and she was dazzling!
@mathildewesendonck72254 жыл бұрын
starstarlightful Same here!! Smirnova is clearly the number one at the Bolshoi now, as Zakharova is nearing the end of her career. And since the Bolshoi is definitely a top company, it’s quite obvious that this video is just the personal preference of the person who owns the channel. I really wish that people would admit it if they post their very personal favourites, regardless of the success and career of other top dancers. But I guess you get more clicks if the channel looks like an „official“ ranking 🙄

Where is Svetlana Zacharova? I thought she would be number 1. She is perfect. Great list though 👍❤️

Svetlana Zacharova is absolute perfection in my eyes - but she is mostly retired from performance at this stage of her career.

@@arthrodea I don't think so... yes, maybe she isn't dancing as much as before, but she's still active on stage :) For example I know she should have danced La Dame aux Camèlias at the Bolshoi in this month

The description says this is reflecting dancers of 2020 and Zakharova’s prime was in the early 00s.

I feel like some of the first few were average ballet dancers. I noticed bad technique in some: not pointing feet, not being fully en pointe, messy placement of feet etc. the last ones were definitely great though.

its a ridiculous list. the no 1 in the world - Svetlana Zakharova is not even there
@iainatrolli10364 жыл бұрын
@@arktana I wouldn't call her no. 1 in the world. It's all subjective and up to every individuals opinion. IMO, to be completely Zakharova is a tad bit too robotic and sacrifices way too much acting, energy and character to in the end just get lost in striving for "perfect" technique. Many dancers nowadays already have perfect technique, but it is the emotion, energy and character that makes ballet an artform and in turn a good ballerina.
@luceafarul5794 жыл бұрын
IAINA TROLLI Zakharova actually is one of the best actress ballet dancers out there. She just isn’t perceived as such due to her relatively stiffer upper body and upper back so she doesn’t “fall” into her movements like many other world class dancers. However very few can surpass her in the acting department. Her facial expressions, orientation of head, neck and eye lines, are all subtly mastered and often overlooked since people concentrate so much on her body. Just look at her black swan dance for example. All other dancers just have one expression on their face-smiling. Her facial expression displays all range of emotions-contempt, sexuality, confidence, evil, you name it. Zakharova uses ALL of her body for acting, despite her weaknesses.
@arktana4 жыл бұрын
@@iainatrolli1036 But reality would....she is as far from a *robot* as one can be. I think people that have a problem with someone for being too perfect are well, sorry...just a bit jealous. Nothing wrong with perfection, sorry!

@@arktana Oh shit, this comment is so toxic. Could you please use something smarter to justify your theory? "YoU ArE JeALOusss". A child would defend his thesis better. By the way, I used to be a huge Zakharova fan myself, I still am. But at a certain point in my life I discovered Nuñez, Gilbert and Cojocaru (just to mention a few names), and Svetla looks like a cold dancing machine in comparison. In non-lyrical roles she doesn't have dynamics in her movements, (specifically in her jumps, as a prima I would expect a little bit of ballon)...Not to mention those horrible, squatty Russian fouettes that I would banish from the ballet world. Regarding her acting...Look at the pdd from La Dame aux Camelias (I don't know the name of the choreography, sorry, but it's the one whose music is Chopin's "Larghetto" from his Piano Concerto n. 2). Look at the expressions she puts on...Then search for Marcia Haydee pdd and look at her acting skills :) I'm not saying that you have to dislike Zakharova, 'cause everyone has different tastes...But Jesus lol, you Vaganova purists act very childishly sometimes.

Me and my two older sisters were enrolled in ballet, tap, jazz and baton when I was 4 years old, my sisters were three and four years older than me. Our mother died when she was 31 years old from a brain aneurysm. I was six years old. The dance lessons stopped. It all stopped. I would have given anything to be a ballerina. I could watch it all day. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry to read that 😔. I'm 30 years old and would love to be a ballerina. The music, the technical perfection, the costumes. Everything is so beautiful. Even the lifestyle; I know it's difficult but the discipline is something beautiful in my eyes. Next year I will start some kind of dance. It's not all lost for us. I hope you will enjoy the world of ballet in some way. I wish you the best!!!

@@lucianaleiva518 Thank You, so are so sweet. Unfortunrtly I have severe nerve damage in my back now. I live in chronic pain. I also have foot drop in both feet and wear braces on my feet. I still love ballet. I will sit here at night and turn everything off and watch ballet all night on my iPad. It comforts me,, I love the beauty of it. I even say it wouldn’t matter to me if I was a principal dancer or not. I would just love to be on the stage performing and be part of assemble. As long as there is ballet to keep watching I will be happy. 😀

It teaches not only the art of dance but grace,good lifetime posture and many benefits for living a healthy lifestyle and meeting positive people who want to be a productive member of society.
