Fight skills? Flexing for the camera is one thing. Fighting is totally different. As a teenager I too thought that if you can kick as perfect as JVCD does, that you will be unbeatable in the ring, but in reality, it doesn't work like that. Some guys are great doing kata or other forms, but they suck in sparring. Others can kick ass in sparring but when it comes to actually perform in competition, they suck too. It's this rare breed of humans who can kick ass for real. JCVD is not one of them. Steven Seagal is not one of them. UFC is full of those hard core killers.

Hahahaaaa.......same here dude!! I was about 9-10 years old in my home country Romania and I got caught by my father copying Van Damme’s training scenes in the movie Kickboxer in the living room lol, and when I came to America in 2000 at the age of 12, literally 2 weeks later after just arriving in the United States, my father enrolled my ass in a Shotokan Karate School up in Astoria Queens in New York and in 4 years I got my “black belt”. Heck yeah... I’m damn proud of it too!! In High School I was sort of a loner and kept quiet and to myself cuz of the language barrier, but no one ever messed with me during those teenage years in high school lol!! Perhaps because I was the quiet kid in every class no one knew much about but wanted to, meanwhile I was packing a killer physique since I was training every single day except on Sunday’s when the Dojo (school) was closed! In 2004 I passed the test for my black belt exam, and that felt similar to graduating from College lol. Ohh the memories...

I remember that 26 years ago, a kid I barely knew was kind enough to offer me a Bloodsport tape. My family and I went and rented a beach house where we spent a couple of weeks or so...Bloodsport was literally the only VHS tape in my position over there, so I watched it at least 15 times. To this day, I consider it one of the greatest martial arts movies ever made, and certainly the greatest tournament centered one. Fun, enjoyable, full of excellent fights and so, so rewatchable. Love JCVD.

Van Damme was my idol when I was growing up, graceful but yet powerful, so I started lifting weights and doing the splits like he did, thank you Van Damme, because girls go nuts over that. :) but seriously, a great actor that made great movies. A legend in my book.

Early 90s i was a kid at age 5 or 6, still remember to be with my mom and my cousins watching Kickboxer late sunday at home. The brutal fight with Tong Po, gloves with glasses, everyone shocked in the living room, the final kick on Tong Po boss, the cheering. I'll never forget it.
