The 12th man on the field was about making the quarterback go through his progressions and using more time. Remember there was only 10 seconds on the clock. I think they were willing to take the penalty for the time trade off. if they are going to change that rule because it is going to be used to affect games in the future. Then why don’t they change the review rule also. It was also used in the game and could’ve changed the outcome. I really don’t understand the double standard on this one.

How about some reflection on the 1984 Texas v Georgia Cotton Bowl. Earlier first game of the season, Texas beat Bo Jackson and Pat Dye at Auburn. Tom Osborne and Nebraska were rolling all season. Later that night In Miami Doug Flutie threw a hail mary launching his fame and costing Nebraska a natty. Georgia recovered a very very late dropped punt in the fourth quarter, drove for a short touchdown and a 10-9 victory in a classic 80s all defense / no offense matchup. Georgia blocked Texas from a national championship steering the Longhorns into 20 years of despair until Rose Bowl 2006. Does anyone believe in ghosts?

Funny there was no immediate NCAA action to stop a team from running a play before Replay Officials can review an interception that gifted Ohio State 7 pts they didn't earn. But jumped to close a loophole that prevented 3 pts to the same team that stole 7 pts. The NCAA is protecting TV brands not making the game better.

come on stop whining about the refs, your coach could have called a time out and forced review if he believed there was cause and clearly he did not, the refs can't see everything and didn't realize how close it was and can not review everything.

@@philgates9876 But still a bigger loophole that is easily abused than the once in a blue moon 12 man situation that NCAA jumped to fix. Heck, Lane Kiffin can't finish a drive without faking an injury. The point is there are tones of crazier loopholes that are yet to be fixed but somehow this had to be fixed the very next day making it look like the ducks stole the win.

This is going to end up backfiring on the league. Teams are going to end up getting 15 yard penalties for a 12th man penalty in the fourth quarter of games that are going to change the outcome of the game. I think it would be better if they left it at a 5 yard penalty and added the time back to the clock.
