“The emotion that I put in our songs-I get it from my dad,” says Yahritza Martínez, singer and songwriter of the buzzworthy regional Mexican music group Yahritza y Su Esencia. “I’d listen to him sing, and I wanted to be like him.”
Yahritza wound up forming a group with her brothers Armando and Jairo, and the trio made a huge splash with their 2022 debut EP, Obsessed. They returned this year with the single “Frágil,” a collaboration with the popular Texas band Grupo Frontera, and on the latest episode of Verified, the siblings break down the song’s meaning. For Armando, the streaming smash (166 million Spotify plays and counting) is “more than just a song.”
“When I was arranging my visa situation in Mexico, that’s when we collaborated on our first song with Grupo Frontera,” Armando tells Genius. “I was also with my family, making music and being together. So that’s why it’s more than just a song to me.”
