Out of all the Yaks, I enjoyed the Yak-9U the best. Great firepower with 1x20mm cannon in the nose and 2x12.7 machine guns. A three second burst would usually take an opponent down. It was so stable also, as you could flip that thing around and barely ever worry about stalling. At lower altitudes it killed any German fighter.

That's the first time I've seen an aircraft in GB that looks like it's hovering about an inch above the ground at a standstill. This was really common in 1946, but up until now I hadn't noticed it.

I'm surprised at the degree of transparency - nearly to the point of invisibility - of the edge of the reflector plate on the PBP-1 sight modeled in this sim. In reality, the edge was not normally finished to an 'optical' polish, but rather was fairly rough, to the point of essentially full opacity. You would never so clearly see through the edge; the surface would completely scatter light and present as a diffuse obstructor. I did a lot of picture research online when designing my own creation of this sight for IL-2 1946. I even gave the reflector edge a black paint finish, as I found to be present for a few pics of the real thing. By the way, I'm WxTech on some of the Forums.

Surely Bf-109s? I believe that Luftwaffe pilots were instructed to not engage one of the Yak types below 5000m, but I could be mistaken. Perhaps it was the Yak 3.
@PyromaN934 жыл бұрын
No, they have been instructed to not engage Yaks in maneuvurable fight, especially 9's and later 3's. In Eastern front usually fighters fought in mid/low altitudes.

Did the Russians refer to the P-51 and BF-109 as F-51 and ME-109 respectively? You used those terms while I know in game they are labeled as the former
@jtkfox47174 жыл бұрын
They changed name from P-51 to F-51 in 1947. (F-for-Fighter, redesignated from P-for-Pursuit).
@jtkfox47174 жыл бұрын
So with other words the US did use F-51 Mustang in the Korea war and P-51 Mustang in WW2. Same plane different names. :)
@Skyhawk19984 жыл бұрын
The Bf-109 was also called the Me-109. Both are correct, but Bf- is more commonly used. As for the P-51, they were in US service past the end of the war as attack aircraft. When the USAAF (United States Army Air Force) was split into the independent USAF (United States Air Force) in '47 the aircraft naming system changed. The "P" (Pursuit) designation changed to "F" (Fighter). The Mustang was renamed accordingly. There were no P-51s in the Korean War, but there were a lot of F-51s.

This is why you read history: So many people trying to outturn a Yak 9 in a Bf 109F-G and FW 190A. What's the point of having more powerful engines, better climb performance, and better dive performance, if you're just going to dogfight? lol
