During a fishing competition that should have been fun, Yakari gets really mad at his friend Buffalo Seed. While the latter just goes back to the camp in a huff, Yakari grumpily wanders down the riverbank and bumps into his friend Linden, the beaver. Linden’s not getting along with Needles the porcupine, who was his best friend and is now his worst enemy. Needles is angry about an unfortunate incident caused by Linden and is taking it out on the beavers by systematically destroying their dam. Yakari decides to reconcile the two friends by being diplomatic. But since Needles is well protected by his quills, he feels no need to listen to the young Sioux.
