Cubera Snapper HANDS DOWN. I was fishing for smaller ones in the 10-25lb range with 60lb main and up to 125 leader and I get destroyed 9 times out of 10. I couldn't IMAGINE how strong a 50+ lb fish would fight

I was in the USAF and stationed in Panama twice and spent seven years there. Met my wife there in 1969. Did lots of fishing and scuba diving in Panama. Taught scuba diving in Panama. I actually lost my sight in my left eye while fishing in Panama and a treble hook went into my eye when a fish jumped and threw the hook! We went out to the Pearl Islands and caught about 1000 lbs of Dolphin - what you call Mahi in two days. Some times we had six fish hooked at once. I had a Mahi hooked and it jumped out of the water and a shark snatched it in mid air! I fought the shark for a while, but it finally broke the line. We had a Surgeon from Gorgas Military Hospital with us. He did the filleting of the fish the first evening (we had to quit fishing the first day when we ran out of places on out 35 ft. Boat to put the fish we caught.

Honestly...even catching bait for clients al day looks like a load of fun. I can only imagine how physically taxing it could be to reel in a few jacks and a rooster or tuna from a yak when the action gets hot and heavy. PS Nice mahi from a kayak for andy 💪🏻

Panama video = instant watch. Those mahi were sick. Btw, is there a reason y'all use those straight gaffs as opposed to the hooked ones I see and use in the States? Seems like fish would get off these straight ones way more easily.

Dude use the Kage to brain the fish if you don't have a knife. Dispatch that fish as soon as possible. you could have had serious damage if the fish was more active. That Kage could have went thru your leg or chest.

@YakFishField4 жыл бұрын
I mixed footage of several dolphins for that segment. We do get spinners there
@Metalmucil4 жыл бұрын
@@YakFishField true, you do get spinners down there, but everything from ~7:30 ~8:00 is a spotted dolphin. They have trigger shaped falcate dorsal fins, dark dorsal capes, spots, and occasionally white tips to their beaks.
