A while back I picked up the original Yakima Gatekeeper Mountain bike Tailgate Pad. I used it for a few months and gave it a positive review.
Unfortunately, after about a year of use, the velcro straps on the Gatekeeper began to lose their stickiness until they eventually became useless.
Fortunately, Yakima warranted that pad and sent me out their new and improved version of the Gatekeeper. This new pad utilizes metal S-hooks instead of velcro to secure my bike to the pad cradles. This upgrade was huge and completely eliminates the need for velcro straps.
I decided to put this pad through it's paces before reviewing it publicly. It lived on my truck permanently over the past months and I used it several times a week both on and off-road.
Overall, this pad held up well and kept my bike safe and secure over thousands of miles. So far, I would recommend this pad, but, be sure to stick around for future updates in case anything changes.
Also, if you happen to have the original Yakima Gatekeeper, I would highly encourage you to give Yakima a call to potentially have it warranted. The process was super easy for me and Yakima gave me no grief at all.
Feel free to stick around and subscribe for future adventures and reviews.
