Yakima Skyline Tower Install - Land Rover Defender 110/90 (L663)

I added the Yakima LockNLoad Platform B to my Defender, originally attached to the OEM Defender Crossbars. Since I added the OEM side ladder, the crossbars weren’t going to work anymore; plus the load capacity wasn’t able to be maximized, so I decided to swap the whole setup using the Yakima Skyline System.
I couldn’t find out which Landing Pads to use, so after a lot of research I decided to go with the Landing Pad #5. It worked brilliantly and the whole install took less than an hour. This is just a quick video to guide you through the installation.

It’s been a while, so I don’t remember which ones exactly, but I ended up trying 4 or 5 different models.

Thank you for this info. I have the OGM cross rails, I don't like how they "stick up too high and have a low loading weight", but now I have been through 3 sets of aftermarket cross rails and haven't been able to find a working set. So, I am happy to try what you have shared😎

Very helpful. I'm curious, why weren't the OEM crossbars usable in your setup after you installed the side ladder? Secondly, re: your comment about maximizing capacity, I assume the Yakima towers + rack are rated for more weight than the OEM cross bars, even though you still have four points of contact in either setup?

The OEM crossbars are only able to move along the roof rails in limited fashion, and based on where the ladder needs to be positioned, the crossbars couldn’t be placed in the right spot; the crossbars would be too close together, thus affecting the load capacity. Because the Yakima towers can be fully adjustable, this allows to have each tower be located in the furthest corners, thus allowing for better load capacity. Hope this explanation helps!

Great Info! Was wondering what you used for the spare tire bike carrier? Doesn't seem to be any brand out there that says they are LR defender compatible.
