Those Shimanos didn’t have a one-way anti-reverse bearing, that’s why the handles have a lot of play with them. They had an anti-reverse paw. So the handles will move backwards slightly before they stop. Shimano didn’t introduce the one-way anti-reverse bearing until the Calcutta and Chronarch in the early 1990s.

When I was fishing tournaments back in the nineties, including BASS Top 100’s, my go to reels were the Lews Speedspool BB1, and the BB1n, and the gold series BB1ng. Back then they were a top reel. I had them matched with GLoomis rods. Made a lot of money on those combos. Still have most of them today and they work fine. Great vid bro.

The glory days . And yes they were the best. Getting myself one finally. Back then I gave into the spider wire hype, had the sc3000 reel and a couple team diawa. Just grabbed a abu mag 1yesterday, getting the Lew's bb1 next weekend
@Knineampit Жыл бұрын
@@randygreen6652 I too tried spider wire when it first came out. I threw that s**t in the trash. Fast forward to 2022, I tried it again hoping technology might have come a long way since then. Well, I threw that s**t in the trash too. Goodbye spider wire forever. Can’t stand it. I’ve used plenty of other brand braids and never had a problem. Even the cheap brands.

I could be wrong, but I believe Lew’s and Shimano partnered until the late 70s. So the model you’re holding is from sometime in the mid to late 70s. I believe Lew’s later partnered with Ryobi . That same model reel you’re holding would eventually become the Ryobi AD4000v/5000v with some minor differences. Ryobi would go on to make some pretty amazing baitcast reels until sometime in the late 90s. Not 100% sure of the exact timeline of all this.

You got 100 degree weather and here in Indiana,we are getting snow tonight? Wild shit.I have a similar Bantam reel. I got 2 old Bantams actually,I still use one. The one i use,I took apart,cleaned and lubed it up and that thing will send it,but its slow. As for the reel,Shimano manufactured the original Lews speed spool reels,so it was a Lews design,made by Shimano.

man, I’d make my first fishing video with your reel!! I just bought a bantam black magnum fightin star from a garage sale and I don’t know how old it is but I bought it because it looked vintage and since it’s a shimano I know that it’s gonna be a decent reel despite how old it is. I also found a vintage Berkeley lightning rod which is only 5ft but I figured I’d buy it so that I can make a vintage fishing video:)
