Nah, the way I see it, it was like this: Being a hobo was Akiyama's lowest part in his life. Yakuza 4 sums it all up: he lost his job, he blew all of his savings for practically nothing (he tried to prove his innocence while blowing his savings), he lost his fiancee (Eri, Akiyama's fiancee, dumped him and got married with his employer who got Akiyama into this trouble), and he had to part ways with Hana (based on Hana's accounts when she quit Sky Finance, she had befriended Akiyama for 8 years).

Glad in Yakuza 5, Shun Akiyama had to look after Haruka about Park Mi-Rae's murder which Osaka Police said her death was suicide. But Akiyama and Haruka knew they both had a hunch that Ms. Park was killed by Dyna Chair's former choreographer Kan Ogita. And that Ogita was a lap dog for a yakuza named Kamon Kanai. And I was hoping that Park Mi-Rae was being a mother figure to Haruka. Because Haruka's real mother, Yumi, was killed by her biological father, Kyohei Jingu, and Yumi Sawamura was Kazuma Kiryu's first love. Haruka was just a little girl when that happened. So Kiryu ended up being Haruka's guardian.
