I maybe late to this comment. But u're not alone Been trying for the past 2 hours getting a Num 1 spot and somehow the AI kept on getting all the tiles when the game started There was one round where ALL the AI declare richii in 1 go AI 1; richii AI 2: richii AI 3: richii

@@antiproductive4131 It's just the RNG of mahjong in Kiwami 2. it's really messed up beyond if you ask me. The only advice i can give is just kept trying. That's what works for me. Good luck

what I hate about mahjong in Yakuza is that the AI of the person is a bad liar, like when I go easy table, they said "We all suck at the game", on my view, they got riichi and ron so fast at the beginning, if it because I'm suck at mahjong and so do the AI.

Sometimes, the better strategy is to keep a tenpai hand without calling riichi. The riichi can rid you of your ability to defend from an opponent's hand.

@@SonGoku-vf4qk, Yakuza 1-6 (and Kiwami 2) has no other battle styles because Dragon of Dojima is the maximum for Kiryu. in Yakuza 0 it makes sense to have other styles because Kiryu had not yet become the Dragon of Dojima. in Kiwami there should only be one style.

I have one question for the expert players. I know that you need at least one yaku to go out. That's why I always call pon if I have a dragon triplet (counting as 1 han yaku), even if the rest of the wall is made by plain tiles. According to the rules, the same shoul be happening with having a wind triplet corresponding to the round or your personal wind. The problem is that it only works with my personal wind. If the round wind is East and I call pon to form an East triplet, then I can't go out (as if that triplet is not counted as yaku). Any explanation?

You're right, the round wind should give you a yaku and make your hand able to win. There's special rules like a 2 yaku minimum though. But if a dragon yakuhai worked that's probably not the issue here. Only thing I can think off is that you were in furiten. Furiten means that you discarded one of your winning tiles earlier into that round. Let's say you discard a 2pin. And then later in that round you're waiting for either a 2 or 5 pin to win. Because that includes the tile you discarded earlier, you can't ron. Not the 2 and not the 5 either. You can still win by tsumo though.

The problem here though, is I literally never get a chance to use Riichi. Not even on accident through the number of matches I've played, granted I just started Mahjong...uhh...Yesterday, but in a day I've gotten a lot better I think. But still never an opportunity to declare Riichi. And here my opponents are declaring Riichi left and right while I'm always the one who ends up giving them their final piece. To top that off I actually find always going for Chi, Pon, and Kan, are always the best thing to do.

Guessing this is old advice by now, but for anybody else watching this video, you almost never want to go for chi or pon in Japanese mahjong because they significantly decrease the number of options you are allowed to "go out with" aka win

The difference of the difficulty is just how quick the opponents get a winning hand, in Easy my opponents always got a riichi at the third or fifth discard, so just imagine how hellish it is at hard

Thankfully it's not that difficult in this game with no stupid requirements like 0 or Kiwami, I managed to get all CP without using a Peerless Tile and while only knowing the basics. To be honest though, I personally didn't really notice much of a difference in AI level. I managed to win the Sotenbori Cup comfortably on my first try and then went to medium to finish the 30 ron/tsumo CP and ended up finishing third. I guess I just got lucky, because Mahjong does seem to have a significant amount of RNG.

@@Spr1ggan87 It's really not that difficult. Just aim for four sets (triples) and a pair, and make sure not to steal tiles unless it's a Dragon or Wind. The annoying part is that it's RNG-based, I won some matches first try and took ten for others.

i think you're misunderstanding something here. Riichi can be declared when you're one tile away from going out and it can be achieved with any combination of tiles for a valid hand. Most commonly you will have 4 triplets/runs and a pair as your hand and if you miss one tile from any of these you can declare Riichi.

But It is still funny to play, the more you play the more you get into it. I have been playing competitively for like 10 years now, and I still learn something new or see something I havent realized before everytime I play. If you are interested in the game but cant find anyone around to play, I recommend Mahjong Soul, It is worth the try 😊

If you are still wondering, my recommendation is to use a cheatsheet with the yakus, and try to play concealed all the time, aiming for riichi+doras and pinfu, tanyao, etc. There is a lot of documents around the internet about tile and hand efficiency. And It is better in riichi to play defensively
