Another reason not to get an over the stove microwave is the dangerous spills. Especially for older people. Many people are admitted to emergency rooms each year because something they were taking out of the microwave spilled onto them. Older people sometimes suffer with issues of lack of strength and or balance.

Hadn't thought of that. When I was a kid, I burned my hand on a stove putting popcorn in the microwave. Still have a scar on the palm of my hand. Kids use microwaves and toasters pretty independently, so I make sure they're easy and safe to access.

Wrong, again. Gas ban is coming from the current Presidential administration. It is a national ban. Not just in new construction. Many states are immediately following this trend in order to keep in good graces with the President and to continuing receiving Federal funding. If your state pushes back, their Federal funding is crippled.

@@konagolden3397There are at least a couple reasons it shouldn't be left up to the consumer. One is because of resale. The people who buy your house may not be able to fix what you did... It's the reason there are codes for bathroom venting, etc. You can argue that we should all be able to choose some less-than-optimal configurations, but the reality is, if you allow that, the next buyer ends up living with the situation that they may not even understand. I think we can all agree that some code makes sense. The other, relevant to quashing new gas installations, it's that it's a GHG issue which affects us all. Between the CO2 released when you burn hydrocarbons, and the leaks of methane etc in the piping/distribution of gas for cooking, it's something that affects us all. I'm personally currently shopping for an induction cooktop to reduce my omissions, and ( hopefully ) improve my cooking experience.

On your recommendations for when to buy, I have an upcoming remodel of a kitchen. I know almost all the appliances that I want and researched them well. Should I go into a dealer with a list and ask them how good a deal they can cut for the bulk of the order or should I go appliance by appliance and see who can give the best deal per unit. I was also planning on having the units on site prior to the demo and construction of the new kitchen to both make it faster to install but sort out any issues on installation. Do you see any issues with this approach ?

We have been working with a designer on a new kitchen for several months. At our initial meeting she suggested we select all of our appliances first to take advantage of the Black Friday sales. Two different retailers in my area allowed us to select all of our appliances and lock in the sales price but we had to put down a 10% (totally refundable) deposit. At that time they were offering excellent manufacturer rebates if you bought a certain number of appliances of the same brand. In our case, our designer instructed us to also order the "installation" from the appliance retailer because her contractors would not do that work (only the rough-ins). Just sharing my experience in case it helps.

I bought a house with a quiet dishwasher-no idea on the decibels. I wish it was a little louder because I like to prop it open when the wash cycle is done and let the steam evaporate. Usually everything drys faster than the dry cycle, easier on the dishes and probably saves a penny on the electric bill. But mine is so quiet I can’t always tell if it’s turned off from the living room, and sometimes even have to touch the outside to check for vibrations if I’m in the same room.

As for new kitchen appliances I'm unsure. I like them to last at least 10 years but preferably 20. They need to do what they say they do. And very little repair. Is this possible? So funny that white appliances are on the way back "in". I always thought everything being stainless in a home kitchen was hilarious. Actual commercial appliances are made from stainless steel, so they can be cleaned with a ScotchBrite and Comet. In the home? Because people don't like scratches and fingerprints on their stainless steel, it's a PITA to clean without damaging the finish; far harder than traditional alternatives. Give me paint 'n porcelain any day. I can abuse my porcelain stove (just a mid-grade Frigidaire) with just about anything I want, and it'll stay looking fine. (And don't get me started on the irony of putting a plain steel shell underneath the stainless steel because people like using fridge magnets.) If only we can convince people that, just like buying an F-150 to haul home sheets of plywood from Home Depot once a year is silly, buying a French Door fridge for the rare occasions you are entertaining guests with gigantic platters of food that you somehow *must* pre-plate is also silly. (At the cost of a freezer that is a pain to use, and makes in-door ice inefficient and costly, at best.)

@Smellslikegelfling
@Smellslikegelfling 9 ай бұрын
I've had a French door fridge for over 10 years. It's great to have so much space, but they do have their problems. For one you get a lot more condensation around the door seals which can lead to mold. Also the ice maker is typically inside the door of the fridge so the ice often melts and re-freezes together and gets jammed.

All electric home is safer. If you can install solar, it’s a win/win. My friends bought a convection range and they love it, even the oven performance. Great tips! Especially about extended warranties and who will do the repairs. I recently bought a new refrigerator from Lowe’s with extended warranty. When something went wrong with it, I had to call a call center and never did reach a human and never did receive a call back…never. Thankfully, the problem seemed to resolve itself, hopefully. But I was quite frustrated and ready to call an appliance repairman and pay out of pocket for needed repair. Btw, appliance repair people are also getting quite hard to find!

All homes should be built to accommodate the elderly and disabled. This will be better for everyone. Large wide doorways and hallways make using a cane, walker or wheel chair much easier. Bathrooms or wet rooms need to have flat floors and no shower hump or pan. A flat floor allows for easy access and drains need to provided. Easy to use lever door and faucet handles are easier for the elderly to grip and open. Main floors should include a master bedroom, restroom, shower, laundry and wide walk in closet with few steps to enter. Homes should be designed with aging in place in mind.

Most range hoods have always only been over the rear burners. Most people don't know how to properly cook. Sauces and frying should be on the small and medium burner in the rear. Water-boiling and slow cooking large soup pots are for the front burners. People need to stop using high settings to fry/sauté; most "pan" cooking is less than medium heat unless it's something very quick like scrambled eggs, etc.

I would love to put in a four burner induction hob but it needs 10mm wiring to handle the heavy load so we'll get by with the single induction and our ceramic hob for now.

You did great. Speak slower, and that suit at the end was jarring. :D Wouldn‘t mind a video on extended warranties and technical support, but I think other videos have done those topics? Thanks again!

"Most refrigerators have two evaporators" ....Not....true. Not true at all. Dual evaporators are typically only going to be found on Samsungs and Kitchenaids, generally the higher end Kitchenaid with four or more doors. Otherwise majority of all refrigerators will use a single evaporator, as this has been the standard for the last....70 years. And don't even get me started on the LG. Please. Dear god don't get me started. You already know what I'm about to ramble about, don't you? Mhm. Yeah you do. As for everything else, spot on.

GE has twin evaporators...Samsung, Upper KitchenAids, Bosch has twin compressors, so what doesn't? Base LG and Whirlpool...

Very difficult to hear and understand the person talking in this video. Something about their voice make them hard to understand, like unusual syllable cadence, reading instead of speaking, etc. Very frustrating and hard to listen to and understand. Exhausting because I want the information.

If you're recommending LG fridges that's a joke. They are having a class action filed against them for faulty compressors. Everyone in the industry has known for years.

Well, we are in the industry and actually service what we sell. We logged over 37,000 service calls just last year. And yes, they did have an issue between 2014-2017, but they are reliable now based on real service numbers.

I love cooking with gas

At 7:15-- let's not be disingenuous. There is no ban on gas stoves. It's a great talking point for maga whose sole purpose is fear mongering, but there are no bans anywhere in the U.S. prohibiting gas stoves. At the same time, the cautions are real and the public really ought to consider the benefits and risks of gas cooking when buying a new stove. At the end of the day, if they determine that gas is right for them, then they can legally buy one without fear of some non-existent ban.

I am not MAGA or a Leftie, but if you are planning a high rise in Boston, Brookline, NYC, San Fran, or LA, its electric by statute.
@ajs11201

@@YaleAppliance1 For the most part, these are upcoming ordinances that are (a) not going to take effect for a few years, (b) only apply to new construction, (c) often are only for high-rises, and (d) will not prohibit replacement appliances of the same type in existing construction. As you said later in your video, there are many valid health reasons to consider electric appliances instead of gas, but I think it's best to be clear about the prohibitions that are very narrow and won't apply to about 99% of the consumers watching your videos in 2024.

And let’s not forget all the gas leaks that lead to fires, poisoning or explosions. Having an all electric home is safer and if you are able to install solar, it’s a win/win! My friends bought a convection range and they absolutely love it, even the oven performance.

So first you say there is no ban, then when faced with the fact that there are bans you pivot to saying electric is better, just shut your mouth we’re tired of your bs

No options? How about a range hood? How about buying the same refrigerator in the same brand for less?
