I'm 55 and I remember when there was no social media. The world was actually a nicer place. Social media has given a platform to everyone who would not have had one before, including the miserable, angry people. And there's nothing that miserable, angry people like to do better than trying to make others feel as bad as they do. I've watched social media bring the whole world down to a lower level, and it's only getting worse. All we can do is hang on to the glimpses of positivity that we get from content like this video.

Social media has fostered and nurtured a degree of audacity, ignorance, and lack of reason that’s concerning. People, who are filled with imperfection (as all of us are) hide behind their screens and computers and spread nothing but negativity (which is another reason your content is always refreshing), and the very bullets that they send out, they wouldn’t be able to take them with a bulletproof vest on. The very fact that these two are still here with us, old enough to show signs of aging, is a blessing. Might I add-if we’re fortunate enough, *all* of us will get older/age, so I will never understand the scrutiny people can have for celebrities doing the same.

But my friend told me last year while recovering from her first hit with cancer “girl I wish I could gain weight”. I remember being 31 and thinking how I was getting old and hadn’t accomplished all the things I wanted to by 31. I was deeply sad, and then I got a call from one of my friends that her older brother had passed away in his sleep the night before. He was two DAYS older than me. And in that moment, I realized how truly “adolescent” 31 years was. Each year, right before my birthday, I take the time to remember him and thank God for letting me see another year . Now, I have to calculate my age when someone asks me. I want to keep calculating as long as I can and every wrinkle, ache, and pain let’s me know I’m still kicking.

True. I had an older lady say that to me a few years ago. She was in her late 80's. She shared a story of a friend from her youth who died in their teens. She said she never got a chance to get old and grey hair with us. This woman is now 94 or 95. She says God allowed her to live this long for a reason. Also says she had free parking, taxes, etc. You definitely can not get old in today's society as a woman. My dad and brother died. Two men who always took take of me. I have had periods of unemployment and then a major medical emergency. I have aged in a way that was not expected. But I can not focus on the opinions of others. To add, I started gaining weight when I was 39 approaching 40. Now close to 50, some people still expect me to look a certain way. People can be cruel and so were kids during childhood. I have to stay focused on me and not care about their opinions. I saw Anne Marie Johnson (in the heat of the night and what's happening now) on So Help Me Todd. People talked about how bad she aged. It seems women simply can not age.

One thing I love abt aging, is each day i give less fks abt what other ppl think or say. With every new gray, wrinkle, ache and pain I'm reminded of my blessings. I've lost too many, and survived too much not to appreciate who i am and if that means embracing aging, I'll take it.

I have been so bothered by many of the comments that I have been reading that are just downright MEAN! I hate when people use social media platforms to ATTACK others. As childlike as this might sound, I think of Thumper from the movie Bambi and the line that said, " If you don't have something nice to say then don't say nothing at all." I also think of a sermon done by the late Charles Stanley, that really had a great impact on me and he explained that before we TALK about someone we need to use the acronym " T. H. I. N. K.! We need to ask ourselves is what we are about to say, True, is it Helpful, Is is Important, Is it Necessary, and is it Kind? We would all talk less if we used this method of deciding what to say and what not to say.. Thank you so much for addressing this issue. Ms EJ.

First time here, you are funny and very truthful! People need to remember celebrities are human just like we are. I think it's beautiful and a good thing for them to show the world life is real, enough with the fakeness (botox, plastic surgery, tons of makeup, filtering etc). I reminisce about my mother and aunts talking about what comes with getting older. I was in my 20s back then and I would laugh at them thinking they were just goofing around and being silly; at almost 60 years old I now know they were serious! lol. They joked around about aging and they aged beautifully and gracefully. My mother used to say "they only way you do not get old, is you will die young". My uncle use to say "Getting old is a blessing, but it sho'nuff is an inconvenience".

Vanessa Williams is my personal She-Ro!!! After that damn Miss America scandal from 1984; she could have laid down and died, never to be seen again. She’s a triple threat who has built a very impressive singing and acting career. She still looks beautiful and so does Tisha Campbell, who has also built an impressive career. I think these women are showing the world what’s real because LIFE HAPPENS. Like EJ said, everyone doesn’t age the same so if you’re going to live you’re going to age and it’s not always pretty. We should embrace our talents for the contributions they’ve made to entertainment and not judge them for not looking “perfect.”

What’s crazy to me is how people don’t seem to see the beauty in the wrinkles, grey hair, or other signs of aging. The unique patterns of how the individuals hair greys, or the unique texture and lines on the skin have a beauty to them, in my opinion. The changes make a person interesting to look at. It’s like the colors of leaves changing throughout the seasons, beautiful and interesting. My grandmother mother lived into her 80s. Her hands were covered in wrinkles and her skin seemed thin. But there was so much comfort in grandma’s hands. They were beautiful to me.

I looked forward to “getting old” with my sister. I’m 47 now about to be 48(God-Willing) next month. I imagined us acting up, poking fun at each others head full of silver, traveling in our retirement…but you know what. She died suddenly in Nov. 2020 at the age of 42. What I wouldn’t give to have another second with her in this physical reality. People really are already in the matrix(meta/social media). Willfully ignorant. Abnormally mean. Following the crowd. And we’re in a society that does not honor wisdom & aging and “pedestalizes” youth. I too learned my lesson in my early 20s and never looked at it the same.
