Welcome back to my "Snare of the Month" series 🥳!! Today we take a look at my latest purchase and my favorite snare drum at the moment: The Yamaha 14"x5" Dave Weckl signature maple snare drum from the mid 90ies 🥳. The demo with the various tunings etc. starts at 09:24 💪. I hope you enjoy this video and I'll hit you up with a new one soon 🥳.

I have a later one #2000 or so. I love that drum I got mine in an even trade for a MCA snare, and can’t believe the guy didn’t want more money. It’s been one of the snares I’ve used the most.

I love this drum! My sr no is in the 2000's so hopefully that's god news! Where in the tensioning range do you prefer this snare? I think it sounds great in the higher tuning (Less so in the ultra high).
@SimonSpringerMusic
@SimonSpringerMusic Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I would say the higher the number, the better. Since yours is higher than mine, you should be fine 😎. I also love this snare most in a higher tuning, which is what I usually use anyways 💪.

These 90s Maple Customs are the holy grail for me, the Vinnie snare especially but I’m deathly afraid of those lugs bc I love my snares cranked

Great video! I have the 13 model and will never sell. BUT I was distracted by your cymbals…they sound awesome! Are the ones in this video the same as listed on your Paiste artist page? I’ve always played Zildjian but I need to check these out. Thanks again!
@SimonSpringerMusic
@SimonSpringerMusic Жыл бұрын
Thanks 🙏. I am not sure about my Paiste artist page. I think first of all, it's a little outdated and second, I have way more cymbals than shown on the page 😅. In this video I play 14" Formula 602 Medium Hats, 18" Signature Thin China, 18" Signature Traditionals Crash, 20" Signature Traditionals Thin Ride, 20" Masters Dark Crash Ride, 10" Swiss Hats and the splashes are 8" and 10" Signature Dark Energy Mk1's and a 6" Signature. Check them out, they are amazing and you can't go wrong with Paiste ❤.

Nice vid Simon, ya ole snaregeak. I like the high tension version. Low has no punch. Mid is nice but not really convincing. Do you use for all versions the same tightness on the snare side?
@SimonSpringerMusic
@SimonSpringerMusic Жыл бұрын
Thanks 😅. The high tuning is awesome, but it does also sound great in the mid or lower tunings and does in fact have a lot of punch. Maybe you should hear it live 😉. Yes, for the purpose of these videos I always leave the snare side and strainer tension exactly the same (which is pretty high for the snare side) 🤘.

Hey man! What version of his signature snare did he use recently in the "living for the City"?
@SimonSpringerMusic

Hey man. It's tough to see, but since it neither has gold nor nouveau lugs I would assume it's his 30th anniversary brass - which he uses most of the times.

I have one of these I want to sell. Any idea what a fair price would be? I’m seeing some going for a lot of cash, but I don’t know if anyone is actually paying the asking price.

That is a tough question to answer. I too have seen them for around 2000 bucks - which is insane 🤯. On the other hand, these things are rare and everything is getting more expensive right now. I have seen people pay some serious money for other Yamaha signature drums. And here you have the speciality of the two strainers, which only adds to the value. Another question is: good lugs or bad lugs? How high is the serial number (they improved)? At the end of the day it's a question of how much is it worth to you and how much do you want/need the money... But I wouldn't go lower than 1000 dollars...

@@SimonSpringerMusic Hi Simon - thanks for your reply, I know it’s a tough question. Serial is over 1400, so after watching your video I’m guessing the lugs are good. Never had an issue myself, had it for twelve years.

@@enricobertolaWell, you're technically sitting on a gold mine 😉. If you find the right buyer, a Yamaha/Weckl enthusiast, you can make some good money 😎.

If you hold a snare like you just did, placing the palm of your hand on the snares, you’re ruining the snares. Every time you touch the snares you stretch one wire longer than the other and it causes a rattle, but of course, how are you to know that…
