The drums you have look to be the late '70s/early 80's MIJ 9000s. From 1982, the 9000 kick drums would come with coated heads on the shallow 14" deep kicks and the black large ported head would be supplied on the 18" deep kicks. I've got a few of these older kits with shallow kicks and one of them was supplied (secondhand) with the late '80s black head with the large centre port. They may look really cool, but they sound terrible on a shallow 14" deep kick. I recommend any front reso head WITHOUT a port to get the best tone on any early 80s thin-shell rounded-bearing-edge Yamaha RC 14" kick.

Those are great drums and you did a nice job of cleaning them up - Love those old Yamahas. I’m in the middle of a rebuild on a 1961 Slingerland, so I definitely appreciate the effort it takes. Also, presuming it wasn’t your fault, whoever allowed the 14” tom rim to gouge that bass drum needs his or her ass retroactively kicked for negligence.

I LOVE larger sized drums like these....They have a fatness to the toms & kick that the more popular shallower/smaller diameters DON'T have....For this kit I'd add an 18 floor tom to go with it if it were mine & do a 2 up 2 down offset configuration with the mounted toms on a double tom stand....

I just found the channel and it seems like you can definitely go a long way if you keep up the effort and keep putting in the time so like just keep doing the great work

I had to mute the terrible music during the montage.

Satisfying to watch, but you are definitely going to have to find fresh tunes to play during the time lapse if I'm going to keep viewing. Also, the tuning on these sound really bad. The toms sound like trash, not helped by what appears to be old used batter heads on the bottom as resos. Gross. Kinda spoils the refurbish.

Fair enough on the music. My original intent was to make my own music so I wouldn't have to worry about copyrights. While that music worked great for the first video or 2, It is adding up to a lot of time on one beat. I'll look into downloading some royalty-free music in the future. Sometimes I'll put new heads on drums, but it's not always economical for resale purposes.

@@drumstash7927 I rarely comment on any of these but have just bought myself a 9000 Yamaha kit (circa -88) and did what this guy did today. Not as fast though. So I'm about 30 percent there. Made me happy we did all the same things. When I was younger, I saw Manu Katché playing Yamaha on a Peter Gabriel tour in the early 90s. Since then I have wanted one of these. Thing is, thank you for showing the process. Who cares what is played in the background (you make a very good point in these days of Rick Beato getting sad about not being able to share music for everyone.) I liked your video, and encourage to make more 4/4 beat stuff.

Tom toms are tuned way too low
@drumstash79272 жыл бұрын
Perhaps. I'm not the best at tuning, but I do tend to like them tuned lower in general.

Too low? What? Man, those toms are 13" 14" 16". Tuning is fine IMO 🙂
@merloleonel2 жыл бұрын
@@ivanbajovic3476 I agree. Everybody here seems to be drum doctors or professional drummers. There are as many tunings as there are players. Relax, please.
