THE POISON DRUMMER

Күн бұрын

Why Yamaha Drums? Well, let me break it down in this video. I'll talk about the build, reliability and sound, plus I'll play a little funk for ya. If you're also considering a switch to Yamaha drums, then be sure to watch this video! I'll share with you why I made the switch and how I'm enjoying the new drums.
The green kit pictured in the thumbnail I borrowed for a photoshoot. The Smoke Sunburst in the video is my personal kit.

Rikki, you are absolutely the reason I started playing drums when I was 13 yrs old. Nothing but a good time was just released, and I LOVED those DW drums. I've lusted after, but never owned a DW kit. I ended up with a Yamaha kit recently, and I am 100% blown away by the quality and sound! Now you're with Yamaha! Love it!! Keep kicking ass Rikki!!

I use the bass drum Tom Mount to mic the bass from the inside. Works really well for me.. with my Sennheiser bass mic 902e, it gives a nice deep tone with lots of clicks. I no longer need 2 mics for the kick.. Give it a try, you might like it

Hey Rikki, you have chosen WISELY! I love Yamaha drums and hardware. I have a little Stage Custom Birch bop kit for smaller gigs, and honestly, I absolutely LOVE it. What's meant to be a mid tier kit, it's got all the check boxes of pro level drums. (The snare is a Tama 12 x 5 han hammered steel though) The little 18" kick with a mic in shocks people that something that small can sound so punchy! Toms have the right amount of decay and tone. On the ship I worked at for 5 years, all Yamahas. Maple/Birch/Oak customs all round. I miss them drums... ps my main kit is a Tama Starclassic Maple, which I also love... But Yamaha are fantastic.

Good luck with the new kit Rikki. I recently bought a Yamaha Absolute Maple Hybrid kit and I couldn't be happier with them. Over the years, I've played Rogers, Pearl, Ludwig and now Yamaha. I just love the sound and feel of Yamaha drums. They just sing so beautifully and like you said, they just work. Jimmy Page hated double bass drum kits and basically ordered Bonzo to stay with a single bass drum for two reasons - optics & keeping it simple. He thought the band just looked better on stage with a single bass drum kit and since Bonzo had a great right foot, he didn't need another bass drum anyway. I like watching a drummer play a single bass drum kit instead of getting buried behind a double bass kit. People want to see you play and with the setup you have now, they can. I saw you guys at Jones Beach a few yrs ago and it was a great show. Yamaha drums are the right move. They look and sound great! Good luck!

Excellent kit! I've gone deep down the DW road with a collector's pure maple, but I'm an at home studio rat/student of the drums. Very controlled environment. My other two favorite drums would be a Sonor SQ1 Birch or the Yamaha Live Oak. I've played the oak and my long time teacher, who is also endorsed by Yamaha, has used his extensively working as a local touring drummer for years. I love playing his kit. It just has it! Depth and punch with cutting low end, pow right in the gut! I currently have a Sonor that I occasionaly gig with, but if I get back out of the studio, seriously considering the Yamaha Oak.
