ALL LINKS TO PLASTICS ARE IN DESCRIPTION 🤘🤘🤘This is a comparison I've wanted to do for a long time. I compared OEM Yamaha plastics for the Yamaha Banshee with Maier, UFO and eBay or Amazon brand plastics. What are your experiences with aftermarket fenders? Please like the video and consider subscribing if you enjoyed the video or it helped you out! You ROCK! 🤘

Acerbis has always been good to me for dirt bike plastics I ordered a set for my 2022 KTM 85 and they came packaged so well it took me almost 30 minutes to just unwrap them and they came with a reusable bag for your old set to go into. Fitting was perfect, I didn’t have to mess with anything it worked perfectly out of the box.

I commented on video 4 about using the 06 OEM plastics it looks like that’s what you got, that subtle flake in them looks great! Mine got stolen and I miss it all the time! The eBay/Amazon ones look weird like the front fender angles aren’t even right! Great video mike, this is exactly why I always comment about your perfect attention to details! If I ever bought new plastics for my YFZ’s I’d definitely go with OEM. I definitely agree with you though the warning labels just need to be stickers. I think now on newer machines they are stickers I believe.. a product I’d recommend to keep plastics in great condition and I live by it is SC-1 it’s a great product and has kept my plastics in amazing condition for being an 06. Great vid. Wish I could post pic. I have a full vitos set. They fit perfectly except for the front fender bolt, where u had to stretch the fender closer towards the lower front fender brackets. My vitos had to be pushed alot too. But when they bolted up, u would think their oem. No twists, bends, creases. I later unbolted them and rhey didn't spring out. I think when they sit for awhile, not bolted up to anything, they sag and slowly twist over time. But they come out of it, and fit sweet. I did have to elongate rear fender lower frame mounts, not the heel guard one. Vitos feel strong and sturdy just like oem. Yes I have oem too lmao. Only difference is the rivet head size underneath the plastics and that's it!!!!!
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate this feedback Den; I would consider that good fitment if they seem to reform after they're mounted. I imagine even OEM can get out of spec if they're left sitting long enough in a weird/twisted position.

Hi , I have a 93 banshee and it has an Athena 65mm original carburettor pilot 32.5 main jet 310 flaper v4, my problem is that when you get on the banshee the right pipe is colder than the other. I did the comparison and it is 150psi on both sides, but the leak depression test goes down slowly, what would be the problem,

I used a set of Vito’s plastics on my banshee build and it was very similar to your eBay plastics. Very bad fitment the first time mounting them up. I figured it was from being in the box for a long time. It did get better after they were mounted for a bit. The next time I removed and installed them it wasn’t as hard to install.

I wish OEM plastics were still available for the old QuadRacers. I've got no need to buy them, but it'd be nice for someone who has the money and need for them to have the option. Made in Japan OEM plastics ALWAYS fit well, unless one's tabs/mounts/frame are bent. Newer Maier fenders are better then their older stuff, but I never liked their Zilla front fender being 2 pieces, or their Zilla hood. I understand that the huge front fender needs to be 2 piece for manufacturing ease, but I never understood the hood difference. It looks a little goofy. If I were to buy one, I'd either cut the top lateral fin, so it would look like an OEM, or cut all the fins off and attach a fine mesh to it. Racer look. Here's a fun fact! Maier used to make a race molded, not cut, MOLDED front fender for the Zilla, but stopped some time before 1995. I've seen ONE, and I've seen MANY Zillas. I also wish they would offer their plastic in the wacky colors of the 90s. I've seen green, lite blue, purple, and pink Zillas! Maier also used to make plastic for the Banshee to make it look like a raptor! They still make the fronts but no rears, so what's da point. I think you don't like the warning decals because they are too contrasty! White and black with orange. The BEST warnings are on old OEM Honda plastic. They are molded right in there, so they are still there, but ya don't SEE them, body color, no contrast! Second place goes to 1988 and older Suzukis. The warning stickers were black lettering on body color backgrounds! Very nice! I like my stitched OEM fenders. No, they are not stitched with 1/4 inch holes, drilled an inch apart, stitched with zip ties. They use a secret method I'm pretty sure my Dad was the first to use on plastic. Anyway, I'm not gonna replace or cut them. They give my rig most of his character. Just like my blue steel nerf bars! All my Zilla's small dents, scratches, repairs, stitching, etc, on it have stories. With my Zilla, the stories usually end long ago with my Dad using it to break someone's heart or hurt their feelings! I was gonna restore it, but then I'd be really afraid of getting my perfect machine dirty, a twig on the trail scratching the plastic, etc. Also, it'd be just another restored Zilla. There are so few in good original condition these days. Another thing, I'd loose the markings from the stories!
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean with the zilla maier fenders; I just recently did one and it is sort of tacky needing to be joined up at the nose; but they did look nice when they were all together. I good set of OEM fender (if you can find one) would be crazy expensive I bet! I agree, if the warning labels had a matching background color to whatever plastic you have, they would look WAAAY better!

I want to build a blaster. How could I get more performance? Do you have any tips, or techniques for porting? I want to make mega fast mega cheap. A carb should cost around 30 to 40 dollars. Mikuni. I'm also thinking of shaving the head.
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 3 жыл бұрын
Man there are so many things to do to make a blaster faster lol. If you want to do a little porting; you can shave the upper portion of the exhaust port so that it is even with the casting in the cylinder and that alone will open up the top end more than you'd think. That paired with a good exhaust and intake and reeds will really wake her up. I would recommend a genuine carb if you're going to get an aftermarket! Hope this helps!

OEM always rules and MAIER varies. I have the wonderful gift of finding Honda ATC plastic. OEM fits absolutely perfect but is near impossible to find. If you do find some for the 250R or 350X, the rear fenders run >2500$ or >700$ for a front, find a NOS seat and you'll pay 800$ or more. The MAIER stuff is okay but every model is different, some fit great, some fit lousy. There are also guys making them out of fiberglass and some guys do a nice job with multiple layers. The fit and finish is "OK" but others are the thinnest shittiest fiberglass fenders you've ever seen, like homemade go cart bad...

Ya know the one reason I prefer the warning labels to be either raised, indented or exactly like oem is that when your restoring a classic machine you want as close to oem as possible. Stickers won’t cut it in that department. As far as a rider quality machine that your going to slap graphics and sponsor logos all over than obviously a sticker is 100% hands down best. I hope you return the Amazon eBay plastics, I think on another machine that’s not going to be on a KZbin channel you can make them work for sure
@MichaelSabo

As far as plastics go you are correct about UFO now only making plastic for dirt bikes. They make Replica plastics for older machines you can either buy in a set or a piece at a time. Sadly it seems the oldest they go is 1986 so they don't offer plastic for my YZ 465. Maier on the other hand is the only plastic maker who does make fenders and side number plates for the 465 but they only offer white or yellow. If you want to do something more wild color wise like me you'll have to paint your plastic. The other plastic makers I know of personally other than Maier and UFO are Acerbis and Cycra, but again they only make dirt bike plastic. Most of Acerbis' stuff is universal and Cycra only seems to make plastic for much newer bikes.

@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 3 жыл бұрын
I had this same thing happen on my KFX. The rivet nut in your frame is probably spinning. I use a thin cut off wheel and I was able to get between the bolt head and plastic and cut the head off without damaging the plastic. Do it slow and take breaks so it doesn't get too hot and melt the plastic and you could be good. If you cant get between the bolt head and plastic; I'd grind the bolt head off little by little keeping it cool. Once its out, the rivet nut can be drilled out and a new one riveted to the frame. Here's a cheap rivet nut kit that can do it - amzn.to/3uKgHFN - there are nicer ones, but that will get the job done. Hope this helps man!

I have two Honda ATC 250ES Big Reds , I put Maier plastic on one and am 100% happy with it . My other Big Red I put Chinese eBay plastic on it . Horrible fit ! Holes drilled in the wrong spot , some holes not drilled at all . Side panels tucked under rear fenders instead of outside like oem. I had to trim a few corners to get rear fenders to fit using a hack saw , so I marked the underside with a black marker . I used some brake cleaner on a rag to remove excess black marker ink and the plastic started melting , turned to goo !! Junk !

These maier fenders are close; I've had it next to banshees with OEM blue fenders and they're not exact, but you have to really stare to see the difference. The UFO are almost exact.

Granted the eBay plastics bolting holes were nowhere close, the way they packaged the plastics is why they’re so warped so bad because they probably got flattened so many times in shipping

Yea I think you're onto something there; something with the warping and it almost seems like they are slightly smaller, like they shrunk or something.

Kind of unrelated but mike you inspired me to get my build going just trying to get some opinions my bike has an Athena 400cc bb kit with fmf fattys but I want to also build a trail bike I was heavily considering going to an alpha cub setup with shearers and going long travel $$$ 😭 I already have 30mm lectrons so I’m good in that dept. what you guys think? Should I go LT or save my money for the cub or just full send. Btw I love the content keep the quads alive especially 2 strokes 💎
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 3 жыл бұрын
Always awesome to hear I've inspired someone to get their build going 🤘 I think long travel could be great but it will be wide, unless you found an LT set that isn't. Built standard travel can make a really big difference if it's setup for your weight and it will be cheaper than long travel. It may help to call Rocket Ron Suspension and ask his opinion; Ron has been doing suspension forever and he will have better advice than me. For power; the alpha cubs and shearer will scream up top (something I'd like) but keep in mind, that's not a setup for everyone, especially for the trails. That will be peaky, hard hitting and a lot of fun, but definitely not well manored like a low ported setup with a low/mid pipe like an FMF or SLP. I hope this helps man!

I am doing a hybrid build replica of the quad I was racing 18yrs ago when a guy landed on me and broke my neck. It is a Blaster with a YZ250 motor swap. So I went with Maier plastics. Got the rear it was in a box with a clear bag no packing material or anything. I contacted Maier and the owner responded and told me he would box up a replacement himself and send it out. I returned the damaged (scuff marks everywhere) plastics. When I got the replacement it had been packed the same way so I am done dealing with Maier as his response was it must be the shipping company. No it was not packed right so Maier gets a zero from me. Sorry just wanted to share my experience. Btw this quad is gonna be displayed in my home that’s why I wanted everything perfect or at least close.

Hey so if anyone finds this comment I need some help I have a 1981 atc250r if you don't know what that is it's a 3 wheeled 2 stroke 250 machine. I'm only 15 and don't know a lot about 2 strokes. My dad got it for free from a friend at work and it sat in my shed for 3 years and I got it running 8 or so months ago and had to figure out how to ride a 2 stroke, without fouling the plug especially since my dad has it running at a 32:1 fuel oil mix, Anyway back to my problem I just got a chance to take it out and really hammer on it and it gets into the power band and starts climbing around half throttle and then when I get to around 3/4 throttle/full throttle it just feels like it starts bogging and has a noticeable drop in power. And i just dont know if it should just drop off like that, if there is anything I missed or more info that you need to diagnose my problem just ask but I have given all that I can think about right now. Thanks for reading this far, any ideas as to what is wrong will help as im a novice to 2 strokes.
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 3 жыл бұрын
I would start with the jetting man, especially if you're having problems with the plug fouling. 32:1 shouldn't foul plugs if it's correctly jetted. I run 24:1 at time and don't have fouling. I think a safe, easy bet is to pull the carb and clean it; and then try dropping the main or large jet ONE size at a time and see if that clears up the upper RPM range. Make sure your air filter and exhaust are not plugged up with splooge (old 2stroke oil built up from exhaust) as that can plug up an engine too especially in the upper RPMs. Hope this helps man!
