I'll add one more comment: After using the CK for about a month, I disassembled my Main Stage rig and put it away. No need for it !! Creating sounds is way easier on the CK. I've owned my CK for several months now and still haven't unwrapped the owners manual. This keyboard is so easy to use and inspiring to play !!!

I use backing tracks all the time. The CK sounds great! Your tracks sound great, too! I wish they would give you a play/pause and volume knob/slider on the surface of the keyboard… and perhaps a file button… oh and on the left side. I currently use a Yamaha Motif ES to produce the tracks… mix them down to a DAW… then save as a WAV. Transfer them to a USB Drive. Then I use a Yamaha Genos to play them back, play overtop, and to sing. Thanks for the video!

Backing tracks are per sound set. You can have as many tracks as set's saved. As you change sounds, the track will change. No other keyboard has this function !!!

Thanks for the tutorial. Great demo. I have purchased the CK88 and it is my 1st stage piano. The sound editing is all a bit trial and error for me and so any tutorials on what sections to use and consider when editing sound would be great.

Did you give a link to the video about how to increase the battery 12 V from a half hour of use to four hours of use? I didn’t see where you shared that. Could you share that, please?

Of course if you actually play a whole gig with tracks, this is slow and clumsy. Just use the Bluetooth and iPhone or iPad - better interface and nothing sticking out the back for the drunks to break off... This is nice for your break theme (of maybe an entire break, 15 minutes of your latest -CDs- albums...)

Cool. So if you have several backing tracks on one USB stick do you have to go into the menu to select a file each time or is there a way to have them just play in order?
@KCHomeStudioStuff-tg7dq
@KCHomeStudioStuff-tg7dq 7 ай бұрын
You would create a patch and associate that wave file. So every time you select the patch, the keyboard would load that specific file.

I use USB AUDIO to play backing tracks and play them live. To play a USB Audio previously, it must be linked to a Live Set Sound. That forces to play the entire audio file with a single Live Set Sound, because the moment I press another Live Set Sound the audio playback is interrupted. Is there a way to play a USB Audio track independently and be able to play over it with different Live Set Sounds without the audio being interrupted? My previous MX61 keyboard did it without any problem.

I will do experiments but correct me if I'm wrong, on the MX playing a USB file was pass through. When you changed patches, it had no effect. On the CK, my understanding is the feature is for patch specific performances. You program the patch with a trigger key to initiate playback of a Wave file stored on a USB stick. I will experiment however I would suggest for a setup like yours, using an external triggered sound pass through such as a PC, Tablet connection and using that as your trigger and sound source. One thing I find is that this could be addressed by Yamaha in future updates. If you setup the CK the same way as the MX, then ignore my statement , this is probably a bug. Just my 2 cents worth :) . Thanks for the valuable info .. Cheers :)

@@KCHomeStudioStuff-tg7dq Thank you very much for your quick response. On the Yamaha MX61 there is a button (EXT.SONG) exclusively dedicated to selecting a song from the USB. Then I press the PLAY button and the song plays. So I can use any of the 16 available instruments. In this way, the MX61 behaves like any USB audio player: you select a song and play it with PLAY. There is no (EXT.SONG) button on the CK61 and there is no (PLAY) button. To play a song you have to enter a Live Set Sound and then button [SETTINGS] /Function / Audio Trigger. Here you can select a song and assign a key to it to trigger it. You can then play over the USB song as long as you don't exit the Live Set Sound. At the time when I want to change the Live Set Sound the USB song is cut off. This forces you to play a whole song with a maximum of 3 instruments, which are the maximum that a Live Set Sound admits. I can trigger songs from my smartphone via Bluetooth and then I can use multiple Live Set Sounds with no problem. But that is much more uncomfortable. I would love if YAMAHA could implement some way to trigger USB audio and play over it being able to swap any Live Set Sound. Thank you so much for your patience. I love your videos. Keep it up!!.

I'm thinking of getting a CK but not sure which 61 or 88. I'm an intermediate player and use a fully weighted Kawai es110 at present. I have heard that I could connect a CK 61 to my Kawai via midi and have control of new sounds on my Kawai as well as using the CK61. I also struggle with octaves on my left hand which makes me think a CK61 would be a better option than CK88. Have you done a video on how to connect an additional keyboard to the CK61?

At the end of the day it is what works for you. I like the ck61 for its purpose and portability and of course sound quality. If you plan on making this keyboard portable then I would lean on the ck61. If stationary, 88 keys will have a different feel which could be nice :)

This seems great, but how do you quickly switch between backing tracks in a set? How do you control the volume of the backing track quickly when it's already playing. Is this possible?

Hi, for the track , you assign a track per patch. So when you change patch the track changes. You can adjust the levels

I've watched a lot of videos and they mostly show sounds. I couldn't find any information about accompaniment styles on this instrument anywhere. I have a question: Does this synthesizer have similar styles to the PSR series? Or maybe something similar? Can I play a ready-made arrangement using my left hand (like on the PSR series)?
@KCHomeStudioStuff-tg7dq
@KCHomeStudioStuff-tg7dq 7 ай бұрын
The short answer for this keyboard is no. If you are looking to create arrangements or use existing , this keyboard might not fit those requirements. The MODX does and you can setup scenes and so on. Of course the pSR series does. Hope this helps.

Is the audio file linked globally or can you link a separate audio file for each live set?

Hi , if I understand correctly, the wave file is associated to a patch. Every time you select the patch, the system will seek the wave file from the set location. Like the usb drive. Cheers

When I play a song and there are 10 different preset sounds, how can I programme them and access them easily?
@KCHomeStudioStuff-tg7dq
@KCHomeStudioStuff-tg7dq Жыл бұрын
Hi , if I understand the question correctly , one song with 10 sounds in a patch from channel 1 to 10 usually means you are separating them for a sequencer or your making one cool 10 layer sound. The CK is limited in regards to this. Something to explore when I connect this keyboard to my logic setup for music creation. I don’t see a clear way on the CK to behave like a workstation. But I will try :). Thanks for the question Cheers

If you mean taking a recording from a CD player as a wav file? Then yes via USB. If you want to play with music live sourced from a music device such as a CD player? Then yes via audio inputs. Hope this helps. Cheers

With the introduction of the Yamaha CK series, Korg has been left in the dust as far as modern keyboard development is concerned. The whole kronos / Natilus line is a joke with there 4 minute boot time. And while Korg was asleep at the drawing board, Yamaha releases the best keyboard to come to market in 10 years !! I believe Korg headed down the wrong development path with the Kronos and have now realized there mistake. I expect them to come out with new design in the next year or two. If they don't, then they will fade into the dust of has-been keyboard makers. Roland's VR series was supposed to be a great stage keyboard. Unfortunately they went cheap (really cheap) on the effects chips used in these boards. They sound so bad as to be un-usable. I owned the original VR-09, and now own the VR-09B. Even with the 'B's" improvements this board still sucks. Mine will be on Reverb with free shipping soon. The Yamaha CK series absolutely blows Korg and Roland out of the stage keyboard waters. The sound is clear, crisp & clean.
