Excellent demonstration of how a track can sound made with just one synth, and an amazing synth at that. Simple but amazing. One oscillator two envelopes plus the filter, I love it. It's the first secondhand vintage synth I bought

I had one of these. Excellent for techno because of the audio rate LFO and since it has a powerful single oscillator, the bass cuts through a mix easily. Surprisingly great synth

Amazing tracks and sounds! Congrats!! Question: in first track, kick is also made with CS10? It sounds very punchy, with compression and overdrive fx maybe?
@rimela2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Cristian! Every sound you hear is indeed from the CS10. Tracks are mixed in Ableton Live (with Ableton’s standard set of fx only). Compression was used and on this specific kick some overdrive. So, you were spot on.

Awesome demonstration of sonic capabilites of this, still to this day, extremely overlooked and cheap vintage classic monosynth. Couple months ago I actually did similar CS-10 only tune, was amazing fun. Out of curiosity, what device have you used for sequencing? (I did most of my thing mostly just playing or sampling)
@rimela2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I used the Korg SQ-1 and the Dotcom Q960 sequencer. Both have their (dis)advantages for sequencing CS synths: Korg CV range needs to be attenuated, Q960 trigger needs offsetting to S-trig (using signal processor module). Most of the time I think it’s better to just play the CS. In my opinion the CS synths stand out when it comes to playability and reliability.
@DestroyER822 жыл бұрын
@@rimela OK, thank you! I have SQ-1 and tested it and exactly.. range needs to be divided (CS uses much lower voltages) so I havent really ever used it and rather just play. CS synths are extremely well and reliable build, there really isnt any match to them in that regard. And I absolutely adore the sound, but thats of course subjective thing.

how did you make the kick drum? :D
@rimela Жыл бұрын
A low pitched wave (square/saw), with a very fast attack/decay on the filter. Play with the filter setting adding some resonance. To make it punchy I used some compression. Also used some EQ. Did you check out the unprocessed STEMS (you can download them for free)?
@electronicmusician Жыл бұрын

I had the CS-5 which had most of the features of this. I thought it was a terrible synth and haven’t once regretted selling it. Very narrow palette and the only good thing about it was the keyboard mechanism - but even that was of limited use as it was incompatible with the CV/GATE standards adopted by other manufacturers. Best avoided.

Any thougts on Cs-10 vs Cs-15?
@rimela Жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, if you have to choose one of those two, I would go for the CS-15. I really like the envelope generators of the 10, but the 15 is not bad or anything (just a little slower). Other than that on the 15 you get so much more with the 2nd VCO and two signal paths. The feedback trick on 15 can’t be matched by any other synth (well perhaps the CS-30 can).
@jonerik1391 Жыл бұрын
@@rimela Thanks! The CS-10 seems a bit "fatter" sounding but I might be fooled by only watching YT. I know it is the case with Ms-10 vs Ms-20. The 10 sounds bigger but the 20 wins on features.
@rimela Жыл бұрын
@@jonerik1391 Did a check on this today, had the 10 and 15 side by side, trying to make exactly the same sounds on both. At first I found it fair to compare using only one VCO on the 15. Then at some point I thought you are right about the 10 sounding bigger, but then I figured out that I had mixed both waveforms on the 10, something that can't be done on the 15. Then I added the second VCO on the 15, tuning it as tight as possible to VCO1, but then in my opinion the 15 is the winner in 'big' sound (without detuning VCO2 and even without using the second signal path). Still, the 10 sounds really good and the faster envelope makes it do things the 15 can't. I could do some more testing on this (if you want I'll make some WAVs for you), but I think the comparison with the Korg MS10/20 with the 10 sounding bigger than 20 (which I agree upon) doesn't apply to the Yamaha's.
