I like listening to synth sounds like this. Raw, without any FX or post processing. It really helps to see how every synth it's good on it's own. I mean, yes you can hear it's a CS-80 and it's great. Reverb is what air is for etheric oils and without sniffing on the bottle itself : this micro-drop scents needs to be spread out into space and combined with the air itself. Only in this way it gives literally oxygene to that scents which than can travels through the rooms. For me reverb is not an effect but something that is crusial embedded into and for every sound(design) itself as a sonic sculpture. Any sculpture needs a space to be put in and to reveal itself... This fact is also true for sonic sculptures. In reality, "dry sounds" don't exist, except in the world of sounddesign-synthesizer machines. For any performance it would be better to give it that... oxygene... Just a thought. But hey : don't get me wrong : very well reverse engineered re-sound-designed (on the level of the dry sound)! I only wish I had a chance to play one of these myself, when you weigh how apparently blissful it was to play in the late 70s when it first arrived, how many hit records it has been used on and the part in which its appeal is so endearing that Stevie Wonder was still playing one of his eight years after it was introduced in 1977 *(In Square Circle)* against how rare it has become since then and how cumbersome it was to maintain even when it was still being manufactured. Instead of envying those who have access to a CS-80, I suppose I should count my blessings that I just purchased a Hydrasynth Explorer, knowing the difference between analog and analog emulation.

Hello hello.. super addictive video.. just to comment on one detail.. the CS80 was not used by ELO on their LP TIME.. almost all the synth sounds on LP TIME (from 1981) are based on Oberheim, not on the Yamaha CS 80.. the intro Prologue, the main riff of Twilight etc etc, everything is Oberheim, not CS 80. the ELO LP in which almost all the synth sounds are from the CS80 is the 1979 LP Discovery.. if you listen to this LP, you will surely be able to hear and recreate any synth part or riff from that LP with a CS80 but not with the LP TIME, for TIME, ELO had already left the CS80 behind and had given itself over completely to Oberheim, Oberheim being, as I say, the almost main source of all the synth sounds on the LP time.. Of course it is certain that you can recreate parts of the Time LP with any other synth than the one the ELO originally used (Oberheim), even if it sounds similar but not the same, but the ELO did not use the CS 80 either in the recording of the Time LP or for the subsequent tour (Time Tour 1981/82) As I said, the ELO used the CS 80 intensively on the Discovery LP in 1979, and live, the year before, in the final part of the tour of the previous LP (Out Of The Blue in 1977), the Out Of The Blue Tour in 1978. Some CS80 can also be heard on the ELO tracks from the 1980 LP Xanadu I would like nothing more than to hear your recreations with CS 80 of ELO songs from the Discovery LP.. Greetings from Spain..

@@AndyWhitmore Hello, hello.. Thanks for your comment, my friend.. I understand that preparing and making this video involves a huge amount of work, and I congratulate you for all of it.. I just wanted to tell you that I'm a die hard fan of the ELO world and its relatives for 44 years.. Here in Spain, I'm the biggest collector of the group.. I'm a historian of the group and a great connoisseur of the entire ELO world.. I frequently write about ELO and its relatives on websites specializing in ELO.. In the ELO world I'm known as heavyheadrecords If you can research the 1979 Discovery LP, you'll discover that it was on that LP that the CS80 was the main synthesizer.. You can see video clips from the Discovery LP, (obviously in playback, not live) in which our beloved and recently deceased Richard Tandy appears with the CS80.. Here you can see Tandy with the CS80 in the video clip of the song Confusion from the LP Discovery: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5u4p5uAlLmasNk In all the other music videos on the LP Discovery, you can also see Tandy with his CS80.. You can see them here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXvYhXyurLaqZs0 Tandy used other synths since the beginning of the group in the early 70's, such as of course the legendary mini moog, various ARPs (2600, Odissey, Quadra, etc.), various other Moogs (polimoog, memory moog, etc..) and from the 80's, specifically from 1981 with the LP Time, is when Oberheim became the main synth both in the studio and live.. On the LP Time (from 1981) Oberheim is practically all the synths that sound on that recording. Tandy had already left aside ARPs, Moogs, Yamahas etc, to use more modern synths at that time such as Oberheim, Sequential Circuits, Korg, Roland etc.. although he still used some Moogs in small details and little else. As I say, if you have the chance, listen to the Discovery LP or look for videos of this Discovery, and there you will be able to hear the legendary CS80 in great detail.. Greetings from Spain
