Many years ago, I had a 309 & loved it. But I needed a portable keyboard. The 309 was sold to a “proper” pianist who loved the action. So that shows how good CVP ‘s were even then. I’ve heard 709 & 809 side by side & the latest model is clearly A SERIOUS upgrade! My guilty pleasure would be a white 809. So, if you do come across one, for goodness sake do (not) let me know!!

This instrument is incredible by all measures; it combines Grand Piano and Electronic Keyboards sounds and effects into one unit to be kept at home. This unit could never be beaten by any other Digital piano to date, many thanks and regards Tony for bringing in this magnificent unit into play.

This ist almost perfect but I am concerned about the quality of the keys and touch and sound for classical piano. Because I am thinking of having a Clavinova CLP 785 and I don’t know if this CVP have also this piano quality. Then it would be really perfect and worth the investment of course.

Thank you so very much for demonstrating Yamaha's Freeplay Styles on this wonderful Clavinova CVP-809. Would you know how many of these "Freeplay" Styles are available on board this CVP-809, please? Also, if I may, are there more that one can purchase should one wish to do so? Brilliant demo as always Tony :)

Very nice demonstration and powerful instrument. Therefore, as an owner of a CVP 409 (Apr 2008), let me tell you my story and feeling. I paid about SG$ 6,000 for this CVP 409 black glossy with bunch with nice storage compartment. When I enquired about the new - CVP 809, the starting price is SG$8400 for a "black walnut" model and - CVP 809 same performance is SG$ 10,100 for a Polished Ebony (same wood finishing as my 409 black glossy) . The bunch on the 809 is a simple one, the useful inside compartment is no longer provided, just the basic model, without adjustment of seat... Last not the least, When I asked the sales person (several Yamaha dealers) if they are trade in, they told me, my CVP is too old (that I agree, despite that it is still working very well), adding that there is no value after 2 years for an electronic piano....They said that the value of mine would be about SG$ 500.....quite disappointing discovery! What is very surprising is that after 12 years, the price for a new one has almost doubled. Of course there are good improvements, but it is mainly in the electronic and amplifier and I do not think that it could justify such jump in price. In addition the basic model in black walnut is, to my opinion, not as beautiful as the polished ebony which was the basic model in 2008 and that time, they proposed a polished mogahony and another polished wood (forgot the name maybe rosewood???). So, I am quite disappointed about that and I am pondering if yes or no to buy a brand new one, knowing that after two years, there is no value....

I understand you. So I preferred to buy a classic digital piano (Casio GP 510) and a Yamaha SX 900 keyboard. With that I have the best of these instruments. And I can still take one for my events. Clavinova is just for home.

Does anyone know - the CVP809 allows a microphone to be used - but can you have it record the vocals as an overlay while playing? This would be a really useful feature to a song writer - to just be able to knock out a Piano+vocal demo to an audio file on USB...

The presentation is wonderful. However, video makers could pay attention to the dubbing! In the sheet music, the small ball hurries over the sound. Yamaha doesn't do that.

I know I shouldnt say this - so much about this instrument IS amazing - but something about those auto-backing things - is just inherently cheesy. To my ear they somehow sound no different to the ones off a cheap casio 1980s keyboard. Yes, the sampling is better, obviously, but there is something still so horribly generic about the beats etc, that you just *know* the moment you hear it you're listening to a keyboard generated backing track. Don't know what the answer to that is, but I would have thought some AI which could cause a few more micro-variations in the drum and base parts to "humanize" them would be possible in this day and age...
