I use a foot pedal to latch the arpeggiator. Much easier than tape. Thank you for sharing this ‘secret’! I’m definitely going to look at crafting new sounds on the DJX!

Thankyou. Your now 4 year old video, has re-inspired me to play my DJX instead of just occasionally using it as midi controller for the Volca Fm. Eurorack has consumed my attention for so long, I had forgotten how sweet this old groovebox/synth sounds. I think I stumbled upon this hack some years ago but you have explained it well and that patch (Cut Glass) is my favourite.

The DJX is a perfect example of those very rare happy mistakes some manufacturers make every now and again, giving the hapless (or not-so-hapless) user an unwittingly affordable all-in-one, bang-for-the-buck music-making and sound design tool in a diminutive keyboard package. If Yamaha had continued to evolve and perfect rather than discontinue the DJX concept, they would have had yet another star player/performer continuously on their roster till this day. I can only imagine what a circa 2023 DJX 2000 (PSR-D2K) would be/sound like. I guess Yamaha knew they were offering too much and used the excuse of the DJX's tepid (in its time) market sales to eventually yank back the goods. Fratricide, just to save the rest of the PSR line, IMHO. But, also think that if Yamaha had any sense, they would bring back a present-day DJX-type keyboard that would be the darling of everyone from keyboardists and DJs to game/movie sound designers and kids. I hereby volunteer to work on/with the development team, Yamaha! 🙋🏿♂️Think about it, please. 🙏🏾

I bought a DJX in 1999 and still have it. The thing is a monster. I wish Yamaha would do a modern upgrade to that. The DJX 2 isn't fully the same. It's been worked hard but still puts out. I plan on buying another just as back up..

@@gtrdude6 I bought a used one at a trade site here in Brazil... But I already sold It because I think the sample quality was very poor... I bought a Roland XPS10 and I'm very satisfied...

@@waltecno1 I bought the DJX in my twenties just to mess around with. I can play a few chords and scales. I recently fired it up again and was trying to remember all the functions. Curious what did the unit cost you?

You're right, but I have more then 150 vid's about the DJX on my channel. And none with me in it.

Really, an overhead or headcam view of the DJX - so we could see button presses and control moves - would have made this awesome expo video even more so. Thanks.
