I decided to test out my new Gopro Hero 4 silver edition by having a quick ride around my area. The bike I am riding is a 2003 Yamaha Dt125R with an after-market dep exhaust.

Hi, the bike sounds really nice and seems to run great, nice ride! But as you say in the title it was a cold start, so i suppose that the bike hadn't been ridden before the video, and because the bike wasn't warmed up I would suggest you to ride the bike a little bit more carefully in the first 3 or 4 minutes. I have one too, and i try not to go past 5-6k rpms(when the power really kicks in) and try not to do abrupt accelerations(no more than half throttle) for this period... Enjoy your ride!
@ManxBrap9 жыл бұрын
+V8Series yeah thanks a lot man it's a pretty nice bike to ride! My dt for some reason seems to warm up a lot quicker than any bike I've ridden, but I'll take that into consideration mate! I don't usually ride like that when I've just started the bike, I just wanted to try and get into the higher revs for the purpose of the video. I would also never usually dress so unprotected for a ride but I figured it was only around my estate. Cheers for the criticism tho, I appreciate it a lot! :)

No problem, i totally understand it's just that my dt has a digital gauge that shows engine temp. and it usually runs at 60-70ºC depending on the temperature outside, and to reach atleast 50ºC where i believe that the engine might be properly warmed up it takes 2 or 3 minutes.. Btw it has a full dep system or just the exhaust tip?
@ManxBrap9 жыл бұрын
ah right yeah that seens to make more sense haha, I actually have a problem with my bike where it warms up too quick and then the coolant somehow drains. I still can't find the leak or whether the gaskets blown. and it is a full system, came with the bike when I bought it.
@V8Series9 жыл бұрын
I really don't know what can cause that appart from the blown gaskets, do you use coolant or water in the radiator? Mine only has the DEP exhaust tip, the expansion pipe is from firebox, the DEP must be way better..
@ManxBrap9 жыл бұрын
+V8Series will get my head gasket done and hopefully that'll do. And yeah the full dep system certainly feels worth the money and sounds awesome in person

Nice when you don't have a EPA like in the USA I had a 79 DT 125 great looking bike!

Thanks for the comment man! I own a 2002 Kawasaki 636. Love it but miss the 2 stroke life haha. What is EPA if you don't mind me asking?
@yamrz5008 жыл бұрын
Environmental Protection Agency they regulate everything in the USA that pollutes the air from smoke coming out of cars to factories or TWO stroke motorcycles that's why they fazed out 2 stroke motorcycle production for street bikes after 1985!
@xGxPhantomZzz6 жыл бұрын
You have to be kidding me but they allow giant smoking diesels? Did you ever take a look at a dodge ram diesel its like a coal train

jaja nei I purchased the bike with the handlebars on it. I believe they were a straight fit though.

@@ManxBrap glad to hear. I had a 2000 model, same colour. Absolutely loved it.
@Beagleman19968 жыл бұрын
So obviously the answer to this question will largely depend on the bike's daily mileage and/or usage, but is it possible to live with a 2-stroke everyday? I hear many horror stories about how high the level of maintenance needed on them is; it that true? I'm considering the DT125's viability as a starter bike.
@ManxBrap8 жыл бұрын
Beagleman1996 the island is only small that I live on so it's hard to do that many miles but we usually have to maintain and service our vehicles more regularly as the roads are tough, constant starting and stopping. This bike had 20k miles on i think and didn't miss a beat 👌🏽 was my first bike for the road and I couldn't recommend anything more fun to begin on! I ride a Kawasaki zx6 now and would love to own a DT again. Hope this helps :)

Was looking for a DT125R vid to show my mate what I rode in the early 90's, I got a DEP setup as well, my mate knew his son, Derek Ellwell Products? East Malling I think? in Kent I bought my DT in 89 and changed from the standard to DEP in about 91, it got nicked from Maidstone in about 94... Gutted :-( Another mate showed me how to hack a cheap power valve, if you attach some carefully crafted bicycle brake cables to the exhaust valve body and an old skool Sturmey Archer 3 speed handlebar shifter, sorted... She canna take na more captain! From 12hp to about 18 or 19hp on a good day, downhill with a f*kin great big smile, loads a good memories

Thankx for sharing. I bought one brand knew 1989 and run it in to the letter then I opened it up and it struggled to get past 56mph. I was gutted but a mate of mine suggested fiddling with the Ypvs and I read up on it and altered it and it could do off the clock but sadly it only went on the power band so it was never smooth.

what size have you rebored it out to when it comes to putting in a piston I was going to do the same
@ManxBrap8 жыл бұрын
darrin goodbrand Not too sure honestly mate. The previous owner ran it dry of 2 stroke oil and seized the engine. I think they got a 170 piston kit put in. They also put the exhaust on too. I didn't really get to change a whole lot on this bike. Just mainly the electrics, putting indicators on it etc... once I put a battery in it, the power valve opened and the bike just flew

Is this learner legal? I thought some dt125s had more than 11.5 kw?
@ManxBrap8 жыл бұрын
They're not very strict over here on the Isle of Man. This DT had been bored out with an oversized piston kit. Loads of people had told me it felt like a 200

Fabio Esteban Araya Valerin the bike was believed to have a 170cc big bore kit in it. It continued to accelerate after the clocks maxed out. Not too sure but I’d imagine around 90-95mph

Where's your right mirror or did it not come with one? My DT has one.
@ManxBrap7 жыл бұрын
Alastair McCulloch I put that mirror on myself because I didn't like the big ones on it. It's just a bar end mirror without the extension. I could only put one mirror on because the reservoir blocks you from doing on the right
