My first bike back in 1997 was a DT50(actually owned two for about 2 decades) and boy it taught me so much about bikes. One thing I hated is the 2-stroke build-up in the exhaust as this really hamper the performance of this little 50 as time passes by. And watch the heat when venturing off road as this will shorten the life of the 50cc power plant. One if not the best ever 50cc.

Usually with 50cc dirtbikes or Scooters is that they are restricted. Not only restricted but also sometimes the boring of the cylinder is way smaller. With these 50cc Mopeds the boring is usually around 40 to 42.5mm, no restrictors either, causing them to be much faster than expected from a 50cc.

Don't install a big bore on your DT, it is pretty fast for a 50cc and I think that it is enough for a bike of his size, also, big bores reduce reliability and the brakes won't be enough to stop you if you're going faster than 55 mph. It's my opinion, don't judge me. Ps: If you keep your DT stock it will increase the sale price a lot.

Hey folks. I bought (traded my Seca 650 even) 1989 DT50/LC in bumblebee in 1991 as a new leftover from my lifelong dealer. I've had it in service since then and instead of bragging how little milage, it's time to exclaim the 10,371 miles on it now. The head's never been off, so that's original rings and bore etc. If you average a 10 mph speed that's around ONE THOUSAND HOURS of use. There isn't a rattly YSR 50 in existence which can claim this, I'm betting. I pour over overpriced YSR ads and rarely is there one even approaching 4k miles with out some YZ 80 motor replacement. I've geared it taller with a one tooth countershaft sprocket and have had to replace the seized and cracked swing arm on the cheap from eBay. The frame also rotted in front and I had a local legend welder do an incredible fabrication. I'm on like my 5th exhaust pipe. The factory replacements were made of real rottable steel stock and am better off on eBay acquiring OEM but rusty ones. I even got a 63 in a 45 mph speeding ticket on the thing. Fun fact: These were the ONLY completely street legal liquid cooled two stroke enduro ever sold, of any make or displacement in the USA. More features than the XTs; tachometer, 6 speed, monoshock and real, instead of goofy scoops on an air cooled dinosaur, liquid cooling.

Does he have a speed limiter? At me on 5 and 6 it seems to start to slow down, it goes in the same mode
@EreksonJ5 жыл бұрын
No speed limiter. It just doesn't have a lot of power to go any faster.

I think I found it, thanks! I'm trying to figure out what is compatible. It looks like the sweedish bike got liquid cooling in 1998. This bike is a 1988. I wonder if the parts fit?

@@EreksonJ they should, same bike and probably same engine just a difference in cooling

In Sweden the Yamaha DT50 50cc have 1hp 30-35kmh topspeed and 3speed. No wounder why people tune them up with a 50cc 5,5hp or the 60-70cc and bigger 20-24mm carb and intake

Go online yamaha OEM parts if in he USA you will find most parts. I have a white gas tank Yam DT 50LC can sell it. Reply by text here 808 362 4687 Yam DT 50 . Great bikes take care of it.

Hey, just wanted to tell you that, because it's a 2-stroke, don't engine break! The piston won't get proper lubrication (if it injects the oil into the carburator). BTW, i also have a DT50, but it's just newer. Mine is from 2008.
@eman82095 жыл бұрын
Someone Youdontknow that’s only with bikes that run premix oil injected you can engine break all you want since the oil is injected without the gas but with premix when you engine break there is no oil lubricating the piston I have an rm 125 and run premix and I don’t engine break
@lengaming16514 жыл бұрын
The oil is injected between the carb and cylinder, right before the reeds.

Where in Japan I could get one of these ?
@lengaming16515 жыл бұрын
It would be pretty hard or even impossible for someone in japan really. The DT50 was only sold in europe and some other countries. Here in scandinavia, there a lot of these, but the mx and mx2 editions as well. I have a DT50 mx2 which i recently got from my dad.

Yamaha dt 50 mx is very sensitive for high rpm, dont do it to much, otherwise your compression will go down fast!! Then you need a new cilinder, wich you won't find.
