I use this kit exclusively for the small dive bars that have live bands jammed in a corner of the space on fri and Saturday nites. I come out of the brain with 6 outs, Snare, kick, Tom’s L/R, Ohds L/R I use two cymbal stands to mount 2 Tom’s and 3 cymbals. Very small footprint. This kit is responsible for many compliments on the bands overall sound. In bigger venues when you have room to use the acoustic set I’ll use Ludwig. (I’m talking about large stages with pro sound). In my studio I use Roland TD50. The point I’m making is, use the tools that are right for the job. I do not believe that one size fits all and I’m completely happy on both acoustic drums and electronic drums.

I’ve played roland mesh headS for 8 years ,I recently purchased a Yamaha DTX 950k kit ,I never went back on my roland Td30 Kv kit again,recently sold it on eBay, Yamaha have not needed to update this kit,as it’s still the best edrum kit out there,with the best sounding module,although to be fair I haven’t experienced the mimic pro,as yet,if the drum tunners of Yamaha’s dtx drum range work with the mimic pro,then I would consider purchasing one And then I would have the most advanced and best kit in the world today Mesh heads come no where near as good as yams silicone drums Also the build quality are poles apart Yamaha DTX range are superbly engineered, they look and feel quality, Where as Roland’s when you split them down are nothing more than plywood and plastic, with a tightly tuned stocking on the top.

Agreed. I have played my DTX900 daily since 2011. Still like new. Triggering is superior compared to the competition, and that's what counts.

Machine gunning is a giant problem with Yamaha sets though. Also Yamaha sets don't have positional sensing, whereas Roland ones do.

I own a 950K (with the HEX rack, which is amazing) and I have to say that the module sounds are behind the times and need improving. The hi-hat in particular I find a bit soft, like he says, but I have no issues with the size of the crashes or ride. Otherwise, it's a great kit and I'll end up running a sound library from my PC.

i have this drum since its release in 2010 and it has held up pretty good. i still play it quite often and upgraded with extra cymbals and toms. now im thinking of upgrading to a new e-drum kit with so many options in the market, but not sure if its worth it. any suggestions?

+Arvin Sam i'm probably not gonna make a dedicated video about that. But I have played it several times. It is a solid drum set, with good pads. The sounds in the module are a bit weak. Overall I would buy the Roland TD11 over this one.

But this the one you can Sample in your own sounds and tune the drums on the pads right thats what i seen

Great video. I agree with your findings; the only thing I prefer on the Yamaha is the 3-zone cymbals. I miss being able to use the bell of the crash cymbals on the TD_30, and having 2 cables for the ride is annoying and unnecessary. I'd be interested to see you make a TD-30 series in which you try to replicate popular kits using the module.
@jeroromouse96999 жыл бұрын
I feel more sincere about the two zone Ro ride.Its like the same quality of effort they put into a snare thats what i like. btw who actually plays the bell of the crash? Just put a bell on the rim of those pads rather than trying so hard to aim at the bell crash cymbal. thats just my opinion Ro makes makes more sence ✌
@ashleycox4329 жыл бұрын
+Jeroro Mouse I wouldn't use the bell every time, but it's cool for a little accent every now and then. And of course, having 3 zones on the crash in the case of the yamaha gives you the flexibility to sign another sound to the unused bell while still retaining a standard dual zone crash. If you think about it, Roland's dual zone drums make sense, as a standard acoustic drum is effectively dual zone (head and rim). But all standard acoustic cymbals are technically triple zone.
@jeroromouse96999 жыл бұрын
+Ashley Cox I agree with you but for me just add more triggers 90$each dual zone on existing acoustic set for my td30module unused Aux input bigger space+easier to hit assign more sounds
@65Drums9 жыл бұрын
+Ashley Cox It would be a nice feature. But it doesn't bother me that Roland crash isn't 3 zone. The bell on acoustic crashes aren't that incredible sounding anyway. But I hope they add that in the TD40

This is the same module with Dtxtreme3 (Which was released in 2007)... Do not buy DTX900 module for $1500 - $2000, go buy dtxtreme 3 for ~$800
@65Drums5 жыл бұрын
Very true, pretty much the same. But just keep in mind that the DTX900M was modified to work with the new silicon white pads. I really wish it had all different sounds. Pretty lazy of them to not do that in my opinion

This whole kit and module is absolutely better than Roland. As soon as you mention that Yamahas real Sampled Oak custom Maple Custom Birch Custom stock kits sound inferior to Roland's sounds I burst out laughing and pressed paused... wrote this and now I'm going do one and never watch any of your reviews again. Clueless.

Um, you've earned the weirdest comment of the day award. How many electronic drumsets have you played??
@yamahadtx64047 жыл бұрын
Why saddest?? I've played them all.. Go onto any drum related forum drummerworld ..pearl etc.., you'll find the general view is Yamaha slightly has the edge.. My comment wasnt meant to be offensive... I actually did burst out laughing at your comments.. Its very factually wrong... I'm now starting to think you have an affiliation to Roland. Roland sounds are very poor compared to 2box and Yamaha.. Stop spouting B/S.

drummerboy999 I travel hundreds of miles to play different electronic drum sets out there. The DTX900 is old, Yamaha hasn't released new drum sets in years. It's definitely not on par with a Roland TD50.

65 Drums most pro drummers I know Use the Yamaha Dtx 950 and swear by it... I was put onto this kit after ditching the TD-20 then a jobeky and finally the TD-30... I disagree with mostly everything you have stated in your review.. I haven't played the TD-50 so I can comment on its performance... you compare this to the TD-30... I don't agree with your review.

Huge statements made here. Yamaha versus Roland. Change the brands around and we end up with the same conclusions for the other brand. Why? Why not Kitkat versus either? There are no facts...no evidence...no engineering knowledge. So it amounts to personal storytelling changing this way then... that way. Humans like stories. Stated you were a fan of [expensive/rugged] Silicone Pads then changed to [affordable/fragile] mesh. Another big statement banging one against the other. Not that you are completely incorrect necessarily... or correct...but extremely biased. Okay. We all belong to our own 'bias clubs'. Yet severely incorrect conclusions for some notions. Neither of these brands are going to slap use in the face enough to make our jaws drop. They are going to make our bank accounts drop [fact...based on knowledge...not opinion].
