If you need only organ, ep and bass then it’s well worth the money. It has velocity and aftertouch. Add a little chorus from your outboard gear then you’ll have fat/thicken patches.

Loved this demo thanks so much ! Especially the demo track which is really ace 👌Personally I never end up programming my dx7 as I find it too confusing, whereas I really enjoy programming my pal’s dx21 ….. so perhaps the dx11 is the synth for me!!!

The DX11 also has the handy "quick edit" function , which gives you a basic set of paramaters to shape the sound with. Personally, I learned how to program FM on the DX11 first before I started programming on the DX7, which definitely helped a lot for me.

I wound up here from a link on Yamaha's Synth chronology page on the synth. I might be looking to get one. They are a lot more affordable than the Korg Opsix that recently came out.

What makes the DX11 far better than the other YAMAHA 4 OPS. 100/21/27 is the inclusion of 7 different non sine wave WAVEFORMS. Its makes warmer more analogue sounding patches possible plus PERFORMANCE mode allows you to STACK sounds. Then detune them. I've got bass out of my DX11 than can stand up to any analogue synth even a MOOG. Right now I'm hunting down a V50. Because it's basically a DX11 with an 8 track sequencer and effects and a drum machine. And I have an 808 drum kit that I created on my DX11. That I want to bring to life. And on a V50. I will be able to do that and make COMPLETE tracks. I'm bidding for one on Ebay right now. Song sounds great. Although a bit too polished for my taste 😁 I like the rough sounding electro funk/pop of the 80s. Which the DX11 can really excel at once you've got your 808 kit together.

I agree with everything you're saying! Good to have some more information on why this synth actually sounds so good. Thanks for that! That V50 sounds like a lot of fun! Maybe one day I'll get my hands on one of those. And thanks for complimenting the song! I personally love more "polished sounding" productions for my own music, but of course the DX11 can be used for a lot more then that. It would do very well in a more "rougher" style 80s context.

@@XavierRadix Keep an eye on my channel in the coming months. When I get the V50 and get my head around the sequencer. I will upload some song demos and tutorials. I'm very oldschool see. I dont use software daws. On a P.C. I love hardware. It's always been the way I work. But my trusty old QX7 is too slow to put together more complex compositions. Especially when I need at least 3 tracks just for DRUMS. This is where the V50 will be sweet. It's got an 8 track sequencer onboard. And I will SPLIT the keyboard and have all my drums and percussion going on the first 3 tracks. And still have 5 tracks left for bass, pads and leads. Then I can play it straight through my 40 year old Hitachi boombox. My friend had one about 10 years ago. And he did a Cover of BILLIE JEAN. And Adamski KILLER. On it and it sounded AMAZING. I cant wait.

I"ve followed your videos for about 3-4 years because I also have this synth, given to me by a friend. (And also because I really dig your musical sound) At first I didn't like it because it wasn't the pure sound of a DX7, mostly used it as a keyboard controller. Grew to love it for its own charms, it sounds very warm and gritty for an FM synth. I hope I'll be able to keep it in good shape for a long time. It's more than 30 years old now...I wonder if it's possible to restore the keybed when/if it starts to get worn down. Did you use presets only for the demo song?

Thanks for sticking around for so long! Really appreciate that. Yes the DX11 has its own sound, compared to the DX7. Mine is still in great shape while I've had it for about 5/6 years now. These things are built like a tank and built to last. As far as I know you can replace the keybed, because a lot of the DX's share the same keybed en keys. And yes, I only used the presets for the demo. I have made some custom sounds before. Don't even know if I have those anymore...

I'm thinking more about the felt under the key, I suspect it might get worn after 30 years, but yeah mine still feels great and better than a DX7. Anyway your song has great tonal qualities of the late 80s/early 90s. I made a few patches myself, often using the presets as starting points, I'm especially proud of a warbling-synth pad I came up with starting the Old Rose patch.

I had to use a translator since I unfortunately don't speak Spanish... But the short answer to your question is: no. One of the main reasons is because the DX11 actually more selectable waveforms than the DX7 (which only has a sine wave for every operator). The 11 and 7 are two different beasts. However, the only plugin I know of that is capable of creating DX11 / TX81Z sounds is a plugin called FM8. So perhaps if you get the chance, you can check out that plugin.

Not at all, I still have both :). I use the DX11 every day, 9 times out 10 as a master keyboard to control my plugins. The DX21 I take out every ones in a while if I need a particular sound for a track. Plus I had the 11 before I got the 21, which was a gift from a friend.

I just got a Yamaha V2 (DX11) and it only has one sound. Do you know where I could get the original factory presets?

Hmm, that's strange. Could be a lot of things. I'm not an expert, but maybe there's a few things to check out. Maybe it needs a factory reset, or more likely: change the RAM battery inside. You can find the sysex files online from the DX11, not sure if you can actually find the factory presets. But if the battery inside is dead, it cannot save the presets anyway. Hope that helps.

To be honest, the DX imitates a piano very poorly. But it does have a unique sound on its own. On the DX there's one patch (I know of, and played in this video) that tries to simulate a grand piano that's called "Grand PF" which is patch 'B05'.

I don't think it sounds better, personally. But I do think it sounds a little different from the DX7, which gives it its own sound. Can't give a good answer to that, to be honest. All I know is that it sounds cool :).

The only similarity between the 2612 chip and the DX11 is that they both have 4 operators. Besides that, they are very different :).
