I've loved you videos for many years. The magic in the DX5 is actually getting your hands dirty with it and editing. All the sounds that come with it are bread and butter, launch pad presets. Once you understand how to design with it, the DX5 is a completely different beast, which can be tailored to your own individual sound, much like any other synthesizer. People just don't take the time to hit the edit button and make something worthy of saving.

My lifelong dream....owning a DX5! That EP still brings tears to my eyes. Kudos to Katsunori for his outstanding playing.

This is what was used in that "Walk Of Life" song for the digital organ sound, I looked it up and found it in an interview a few years ago. I loaded the sysex into dexed, and I found the exact same patch!

I thought it was a DX1. Anyway, sonically identical to DX5.
Agreed. If you can't afford a DX1. Which is just about everybody. Of course, when the original DX instruments were introduced, none of them had built in effects. Certainly no one recorded with these without using outboard effects. Adding them to a DX from this era, you get a much better idea of how really great these synths are capable of sounding.
DX 1 has 73 wooden keys, a beautiful wooden case and a much more elaborate top panel that greatly aids programming. But sound engine essentially the same as DX5. And DX1 cost almost five times as much.

I think a DX synthesizer is just the oscillator of a sound. You'll need to add filters and effects to make a complete sound. The DX5 is a lot more complete than the DX7, since it can layer and detune sounds. It sounds a lot warmer and richer than a simple DX7. But it still needs filters and effects, to be a complete synth...

You can always add external fx and filters 😊😊😊

Same for any digital synth.

Dx 7 II has also possibility of layering and detuning sound.

That's why I have an FS1R instead! Effects + Filters +Formants + more Operators + FMX. (Or a Montage for the keyboard)

The FM-synths need a whole rack of effects and filters, so you'll ask yourself if it's not better to bring another synth which has it all built in?

I don't like FM. 1000 settings and every sound is either a metallic bell+envelope or weird saw-alike string+envelope. And lots of it sounds like 80s MIDI Sound Canvas instead of 80s Analog, bleh. Good for a "keyboarder" musician I guess, but no sound creativity for a synthesizer composer.

I’m partial to analog, but I do have a heart for FM… It has its place in a recording.

No sound creativity for a synthesizer composer? Seriously? I guess you've never met a DX5...or a synthesizer composer. If you mean it's hard to program then sure. Doesn't mean someone who knows what they're doing can't design with it. Where did you think those 1000 presets came from?
@ScoopexUs10 ай бұрын
@@timmantle7154 they come from a team of Japanese programmers employed to create them. I'm talking about a synth is in the hands of a creative synthesizer musician.

Funny: Chinese people replace the letter R by an L. This Japanese guy replaces the L by an R. When he means 'split mode', he says 'modo di spritto'...
