Been ebiking for a while now as a below knee amputee it really takes the sting out the hills but it's surprising how hard you can work if you want to. Benefits for me are being able to cycle as often as I like even when tired. The ability to adjust the amount of effort you use depending on how you're feeling is great. Range depends very much terrain and how much power you supply yourself

I researched the ebike landscape thoroughly a few years back. The Yamaha stood out as you can (or at least coculd) perform routine controller & motor software updates without going to a 'dealer'. I'm handy with a spanner so would rather do the servicing myself. So another win for the Yamaha powered bikes.

A really good review of e-bikes Tony! I've had a Raleigh E-bike since 2018 and rode it to work and beat the bus here in Seattle over an 11 mile route through city streets and out to where I lived. I did over 4500 miles in 18 months and then covid hit and I work from home now so don't do AS many miles. It's a great way to get exercise and gets me out when a normal bike probably wouldn't. (Mine gets up to 34mph btw) *edit. Forgot to add, my bike cost me $4800 in 2018! Not cheap but good.

Thanks, for me they make me want to go out riding again, wheras my old mountain bike has been sat in the shed for years. It's all about fun and getting out to enjoy the countryside rather than a challenge. Its a lot to spend, but we are only here once.

Interestingly riding is easier than walking. It’s still painful for me to walk and anything other than a short walk lead to swelling.

A really interesting review, I have a Scott E Mountain bike which I use on the canal towpaths. great fun and keeps me fit...ish. The sound from the DJI 360 x4 camera was very impressive.

Thanks for the great review! They have been practically giving away the Moro, Wabash and CrossCore here in the states because they are backing out of the market here completely. Do you know, are they going to continue to make them in Europe? I would love to know what they currently cost where you live. In the U.S. the price breakout in USD is: (This includes 5 year full warranty and an extra battery!) YDX-MORO 07 MSRP - $6,399.00 - Sale price $2,559 Wabash RT MSRP - $4,200 - Sale price $1,679 CrossCore MSRP $2,999 - Sale price $1,199 That said, they are basically all sold out here at this point as you can imagine.

They are still selling at list price here in the UK, and with new 2025 models announced it doent look like they are being withdrawn. Those are incredible deals, no wonder they sold out! When it came to the crunch I actually changed my mind and ended up buying the Wabash over the Moro!

Any comments on the frame sizing (specifically on the Moro 07)? What size frame were you riding and how tall are you? Also how was the range? The 500 Wh battery seems low. Thanks for posting this video from a non-bike-nerd perspective.
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 19 күн бұрын
Frame sizing is accurate to the Yamaha charts. i'm 178cm tall and the Medium was spot on. I think the battery is fine, I don't have much in the way of elevation to worry about where I live, so theres more than enough range for my needs.

Very serious question for you, do you buy one of these or do you buy an electric motorbike? The reason I ask is that if you buy an electric motorbike, you have to abide by motocycle rules and laws, that's to say that you need insurance, motocycle clothing, CBT bike licence, and they will start to get taxed just like a standard bike/car. So if you buy a electric motorbike are you simply buying a motocycle shaped electric bicycle? And paying for the extra costs and paying for the fancy macho looks of a motorcycle? Cheers

As you pointed out, they are two very different machines. A key difference is the pedal assist. These bikes will not move unless being pedalled, there is not 'throttle' like there is on something like a Suron. That assist is also limited to a max 25 km/h in the UK. An electric motorcycle is just a motorcycle with a different power unit. Much bigger, heavier, faster and with its own propulsion.

I saw that the Wabash was a small size...how tall are you?
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 29 күн бұрын
The Wabash would be too small for me normally, I’m 179cm, so would go for a medium. I had the small so my wife could try it too. There’s also been a little development since I made the video. When it came to the crunch I actually changed my mind and bought the Wabash instead of the Moro! It’s going to be more useful in reality.

@@mancavemoto Thanks for the response! I'm a 176.5 with short legs and stiff back so, was contemplating the small for stand over and for reach but, a medium is probably the size that I should get. Glad to hear that you like the bike enough to buy it!

@@mancavemoto Try rotating the bar up a little on the Wabash and you will get a riding position that is a little more like riding bar ends on a mountain bike. I also like the drops a bit better that way. I added a Kinekt suspension stem with a 30 degree rise to get me a little more upright. The Kinekt also does a great job of soaking up the bumps! I wish you a speed recovery. Enjoy!

More than 21 kg for a gravel bicycle? The cable/hose routing looks like a rat's nest. Bianchi offers E-Impulso Allroad at close-out pricing. Less moto, more bicycle and far, far lighter. At one time I thought the moto makers would wipe-out the bike makers in the e-bike biz..but if this is the best they can do, I'm changing my mind.

Theres a whole raft of bikes out there to choose from. The Bianchi is a bit of a different beast with a hub motor on 250wh battery.

@@mancavemoto I doubt the Bianchi will get anywhere near the same range as the Yamaha. It's a nice sleek looking bike though and would be easier to ride without power.

Your recovery premise for obtaining an ebike is flawed. As a stationary bike would do the same rehab job for a tenth of the price. But yamaha did give you some nice bikes to utube about; so good on you. And you are not wrong with your assessment of the 3 you "tested"; but they are all on the heavy side for the money. Over the last 5 years or so my opinion of ebikes has changed from "WHY?" to; I'm not getting younger maybe I can use one sooner than later to stay on the bicycle. I do find it a bit ironic that many people I see on a daily ride, riding ebikes. Would shun in horror the thought of riding a moto on the street. But there they are on an ebike. Most wearing zero safety gear and many with one or more children on the rack in the back....
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto Ай бұрын
Hardly flawed, a stationary bike doesn’t get you outside and the benefits that brings. Plus it doesn’t work other parts of your body, as a normal or e-bike would.

wearing a Honda Jacket on a Yamaha. 😆 The e bikes are getting some bad press here and there, that aside they have a place for people that can't ride a regular bicycle they let you ride and they are great alternate for the commute to work and running errands to the shops, the post and of course a stop for coffee. I know a lot of young adults they don't want automobiles and are using e-bikes for their daily transport. LOL I one of them got rid of the car after it start becoming a money pit and waiting a long time for parts. With my bicycle any parts I need I can usually have delivered in a few days. I stopped riding motorcycles a few years ago due to health issues, I started riding bicycles and was looking at an e-bike but my fitness level got better and better to the point I can ride anywhere I need or want to go. I find them heavy my hybrid bike is heavy enough and if I run out of energy a candy bar and soda sorts that out 🤣 Personally I'm glad to see the motorcycle manufacturers making e-bikes, hopefully the parts and service situation is way better than buying one online. For us (ex) motorcycle types the flat bars are a better option just one thing to look out for outside of England many bicycles have the front brake on the left side, LOL I modified my USA bicycle to right front brake, its more intuitive for me after riding motorcycles for 45 plus years and riding bicycles in England for a lot of years. I bicycle and walk they complement each other, bicycling helps with my cardio and walking strengthens my bones. Cheers ps the padded bicycle shorts and tights do make a big difference.😉
