I'm 5'11"/32" inseam, just got a Yamaha Touring screen to replace the Cee Bailey +2 on my Gen3 FJR. In "up" position I can comfortably ride all day with my helmet faceshield open; very little buffeting or wind noise.

Thanks for all your testing...I am interested in buying an FJR and glad that you was able to show me where the air flow will be going on my riding position!

Thanks for the demonstration. I recently bought a 2020 FJR and I have to ride with the screen all the way down. Raising it causes way too much buffeting and unpleasant riding for me. The stock screen is probably just too short.

Nice job with the video. I just purchased a 2015 FJR. Indeed, the OEM windscreen is short for me at 6'1". I'm used to the larger Givi screen I had on the Burgman which in some cases was too tall. I find the stock FJR windscreen just does not reduce the buffeting on my helmet. Since I ride with several groups and use a Sena bluetooth to communicate, it's important to get the wind noise down.

Excellent video. Love your engineering technique. Very effective at demonstrating different effects. I have had similar outcome on a BMW 1150 RT with a Cee Bailey windshield that is 3.5 inches taller than stock. Dramatic difference. Made the bike much more comfortable at speed; and also kept me from tiring on really long rides. Again, video is well demonstrated.

Brian, Great test. I wanted to make a comment for those people who might want to upgrade to a Yamaha Touring windshield with a Gen II. It turns out that this windshield, which I bought is in no way like the one you bought for your Gen III. It is of a horrible quality and the holes were not drilled in the correct location. It also was impossible to put on the cover trim panel because of the poor hole drilling. And I lost money returning it due to a restocking fee, which seemed very unreasonable considering Yamaha provided a defective hem product. After going thru a bunch of other windshields I landed on the California Scientific one. Very high quality in all regards. It also has a small slot in it to reduce backdraft which is not problematic, even in the rain! I also learned that unless you get a windshield tall enough to be at your eye level and above you won't get real good quiet. So make your measurements carefully. Following really enjoying the windshield I had the misfortune of the bike falling down while on the kickstand with the motor idling. Was a crazy thing. I called California Scientific and told them what happened and they sold me a new windshield at a discount. An excellent company. Can't say enough good things about them and their products.

Great video, sound science this is a much appreciated help in making some decisions. I just bought a 2010 fjr and am the same height as you. I haven't had a lot of time in the saddle but will definitely use your data along with my own to figure out what to do about the wind screen. I'm looking forward to riding all year round so the wind block in the up position of the touring screen in winter will be more of an issue up north where I am in keeping me warm. thanks again!

I bought the Yamaha touring screen. I'm 6.0 and 31 inseam. With it all the way up, the wind buffets my helmet enough to give me a headache on a long ride. Proof that it works differently for everyone.

Bryan, great video, just like the rest of them. I have a 2013 FJR with its stock windshield. When it is in the lowest position the screen rattles to the point where I have to raise it until rattling/vibrating of the windshield stops. Any idea as to what can cause the windshield and/of it electrical/mechanical mechanism to vibrate/ rattle? Thanks much!!

I'm 5'9", seat height in the lower position for a 2015 fjr1300es.. I bought the touring windshield and like you said at around town, commuting speed of 40 mph no turbulence. At highway speed i found still getting beat up a little. Not as bad as the stock shorter windscreen but still enough to make long distance highway riding fatiguing. What do tall, 6'4" [people do. I'm looking to buy the Cee Bailey and see what happens. Might have to sell my touring screen on ebay. Hope a midget buys it.

I just got an FJR (2013) and have enjoyed and learned from your video's. All except this one. Wind noise at 40-50 MPH? Who cares? Let me know how much better the touring screen is at 85 MPH. Where it counts. You have some great insight on this bike but unfortunately for you .. your riding seems confined to suburban Florida which is is like... well.. you know...... boring. Take that thing to the mountains in the west.. Ride in Montana where the speed limit's are 70 and above. Then tell me how that screen works.

Justin Fontaine All you had to do was watch some more videos. I have talked about it many times and you can see/hear for yourself it's exactly the same at highway speeds. It's a bit unstable above 90, but still a nice quiet bubble. Watch my going to AIMExpo vid for a freeway ride there with my visor up ;)

I actually found this video very informative. Some of us don’t own cars and are bike ownerS ONLY. We also use our rides to occasionally commute as well as tour. Not every road we’re on is 65 n up. Some fall right within that 45-55 mph zone. Blue Ridge and Tail of the Dragon also fall within that range. I myself was looking into a National Cycle windshield. The durability test was very convincing. And it’s a couple inches higher than stock.

I put about 4000 kms on my Yamaha touring screen..It already has a few rock chips even though I'm never riding off road. I had a rifle V-Stream on my Kawi Concours for 7 years and 30+K kms..not a mark on it. I found it provided better all around performance than the Yamaha scree. I wouldn't recommend it.
