Lot of negative comments here. Alf England did my g'box mod and My 2018 FJR is running as sweet as a nut. I have total confidence in their engineers.

Thanks for showing how much there is to the replacement. I have a 2016 model that is being done now and I now understand the length of time they have taken to do it.

This was an issue for the 2016 to 2020 models only. Newer models didn't need this done. What a ton of work. Glad my 2022 didn't need to have this done! Two of my friends had this done (2016 and 2019). Their bikes run perfect!

mine was 54 working days in total at the dealers with 3 attempts to get it right! even then I had to finish tidying up cables and pipes etc! Still got it and it has done about 6000 trouble free miles since.

Glad you did it yourself after dealer for safety,not all dealerships have good techs,its a crap shoot to find ole school techs who know these bikes and care,soon there will be no techs anymore,nobody wants to work ,just get paid for showing up...............

What a shame, I was thinking of buying a 6 speed FJR but there is no way I would trust a local dealer to do the repair. Even if the dealer's mechanic's are fully certified, they will be 'leaned' on by the dealers to hurry things up as its costing time ( regardless of being funded by Yamaha)and money, put under pressure is how mistakes happen, if my experience of some dealers is anything to go by. If they were shipped back to the factory I might have considered it.

If this is is the 20th anniversary edition, why was this gear change needed ? would it not have come from the factory already done.
@ryanreeves702 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! I wouldn't trust a shop either to do it right and get everything back correctly and torqued but most likely they would just say they did the repair and bill yamaha while the bike sat in the corner untouched. Avoid the 6 speeds 2016 up.

Yamaha said the recall are only from year 2016 until dec 2020. How come the Fjr 20th anniversary got affected?
@Little_Raff Жыл бұрын
same question. I thought the Ultimate Edition was gearbox problem free.

@@Little_Raff mine the 20th anniversary 2021 , not affected batches, 👍

That's the reason 3 years ago I bought a 2015 FJR. It was the last model with a 5-speed transmission.

Yes. 2008 to 2012 are certainly the better fjr’s to buy.

So, almost 40 years after the notorious FJ 1100 gearbox problems, Yamaha still can't make it good.

and here again, bean-counter biotches, we learn its better to do it right in the first place, with a 'forged' gear as Im sure the engineers told you. giveaF bout quailty or customers.. PROFIT PROFIT PROFIT, an dont gimme that "it'll cost a lot more" bs., whataya think this costs them to do free to every unit. had it been done (built) right in the first place, with a forged gear, it would have been pennies more per unit. DOH 🤦♂️

This is why I ended buying other motorcicle instead an FJR 1300. No way to pay one as a new bike, with the engine opened in half depending on the dealer´s hability... No Yamaha, thanks. What a sad ending to this iconic model. And it´s even worst if you consider how lazy Yamaha was in making changes to the FJR, and it turns out that one of the few changes they did make, went horribly wrong.

How can Yamaha agree and push that this recall could be done by a basic mechanic guy paid 1800€/month without thinking that a lot of customers issues will follow ??. It should have been done by the factory, this is a must have !. No other options except NOT doing this stupid recall. My sixth FJR (!) is a 2016, started abnormals and destructives vibrations at 34000kms, with no reasons. Nobody knows why, nothing proposed by Yamaha except the confirmation that « the level of vibrations of the motorcycle is abnormal ». How can i trust anymore this brand with this ?. This is the most stupid recall i have ever seen of my life concerning a byke, and this mean that i will never trust again in this company.
