Because the bottom of the fuel tank was lower than the carbs, this was the first carbureted motorcycle with an electric fuel pump. That's why it has a switch in the fairing for reserve. Also, the ZX frame GPz's had the kickstand kill switch starting in 83.

You can hear what it sounds like at min 6:00. If you consider the sound from a cheap microphone worth while ;) it sounds quite like a modern 4cyl bike, smoother maybe. And the sound at low rpm is quite grunty, higher up more screeming. Noise restrictions were coming in that time,hence it is not as loud as some older motorcycles anymore.

'92 FZ here. Like yours, but less dangerous front brakes and 17" wheels. Lovely one you got there!

I stumbled on a 1985 fz750.. Working on restoring it now... Do you have any suggestions? I need parts and they are scarce here in Georgia..

What are you looking for? I would search ebay and friends for used mechanical parts. I did this before for other older bikes. Some even buy a broken bike as parts bin. The fairings are made from ABS plastic. I literally fixed the fairings of this bike, which were shattered to pieces, with a soldering iron and LEGO bricks (ABS plastic too) :) But other than regular maintenance I never had to do any work on the fz in 3 years of ownership now..

Dude.... I had an '86 half fairing.... I am a Yamaha guy, owned several smokers and picking up a DT250 this week. Ducati air cooled twins and Triumph triples are also faves so I have a diverse garage now with those three very different bikes.

I like that model too, the 1fn had 2 exhausts, makes it look more symmetrical. I had a 2 stroke yamaha tdr belgarda 125 before. It shares the motor with the dt 125 I believe. Really like that 2 stroke feeling. They are light and flickable, a looot of fun. Enjoy your new bike :)

@@BiasTeacher Accelaration is pretty fast in the beginning but you get used to it after a month or so. Also I regularly had troubles with shifting (no pressure) and starting. Nowadays I own a 1997 Fireblade. Let's just say it rips the Yamaha to pieces. Brutally fast for a '97 bike.

Thanks :) the steering head bearing was still in good condition. forks were in good shape too. i think the tires play a major role as well, curvature and rigidness. Its important to get the right ones otherwise youll have a lot of work to changing your riding style, coming from more modern bikes. it turns in quite quickly and if youre not prepared, it feels as if youre loosing the bike. At high speeds i can feel it wobble, but no big deal. On the other hand this wheel size configuration (big diameter rear,small front) makes turning easier. I think that was the goal in developing towards this setup. But they got rid of it a few years later because of lack in high speed stability and tire and suspension technology got better..

@@TheRidentRevolver I thought so. I have a VF 500 F that uses the same wheel setup (16 inch front, 18 rear) with even smaller tires. God forbid if you ride on a road it's not perfect. I've hit a slightly imperfection on the road while cornering at 80 kms/h and it started wobbling like crazy. Glad it's not just my bike ahahah

I wanted one of these bad in 86/87 when I was a youth just out the school.
