Yamaha FZ/MT-10 How to Change Spark Plugs

If you're are doing spark plugs on the MT or FZ you will run into these problems, I promise. It takes patience, trial and error. Whatever you do, try not to snap the tab of the coil. Technically you don't need the Yamaha tool to do the job like i thought. You can do it with a 14 deep and some ingenuity. Be careful and try not to have a bad day.

Dude I was able to take everything off, switch them out, and put it all back together in under 3.5 hours. Thank you for the video. I used thick weed-wackier line and twisted at the same time. I also used a small rubber hammer to lightly tap them flush with the top of the motor.

This guy is so dramatic. The plug change isn't nearly as hard as he describes. No special tools are needed, and you don't have to remove the AIS to get to the plugs. Just pry the coils out gently with a big flathead screwdriver, no need for string, dowels or whatever. I used a magnetic 14mm swivel spark plug socket I bought on Amazon for $12 with a U adapter and a small extension. Easy.

My speed triple was like that too with the coil packs. I used dielectric grease on them when reinstalling so they seal but still remove easy. Also if you use standard spark plug sockets they have a rubber boot at the top that grabs the sparkplug and keeps the socket attached to the plug when removing. Almost makes you want to by a v4 or vtwin after fuqin with inlines.

2 70/75mm extensions and thin wall 14mm spark plug socket works well. Getting spark plug caps off coils.... give them half a turn and pull very hard. Make sure u have unplugged them prior to doing this. Will help if you take the ais solenoid which is bottom of air box out the way. Just undo the pipes via the clips.

Yup sparkplug sockets are the way to go. Dielectric grease on the coil gaskets and coil probe will make the next sparkplug change much easier as well.

Yeah it was the same way on my 2017 GSXR 1000 with the coil packs. I some how man handled them out. Haha

Also, just use a little dielectric grease on the coils when you put them back on. So simple.

That does blow, fortunately I have a pretty decent dealer that actually has more than one competent mechanic. I'm sure they do have it dialed because I've heard R1's are just as bad. That's one I'm going to pat the dealer to do.

Use I bit of wire to put in the hole then when the coil clips on just pull the thin wire out .I used 0.8mm thickness on my benelli tornado

I believe if you take the side plastics off completely you have access from side of frame to remove Left and Right plugs, with the tool they provide.

It ain't that hard. You just have to have strong hands and patience... as well as twisty motion. My MT07 coil packs are the same way. Just takes patience

U should put NGK iridium plugs in your bike.....then u only have to change them every 80 000kms instead of every 10 000kms

Most inline 4s are the same. Frame always gets in the way. Triples are too.

When removing the coil , could you perhaps give it a twist as your pulling up .? Instead of using the "bungie cord " you have used.,??

I would be checking the coil, change the spark plug and if that doesn’t fix it I would look at the fuel injector.

Did it ever occur to you to just take the radiator off to get easy access to the plugs?
