Thank you for investing your time and knowledge to prepare and share all of this, I’m hooked. Having recently dusted off my Tyros 2, this content is gradually getting me updated with evolution of change and despite attending the launch and reading the negative comments, this is increasingly moving me towards making the buying decision for a Genos 2 especially if it gives me 18 years of fun… that makes the per annum cost about equal to 1 months energy bill. Thank you.

I was the 2nd in bc canada that was able to purchase one. Many had to wait a good 8 months or more to order one. But amazing demo plays my friend. Now im thinking. 😮😊😊 Soon a genos 3 will come out eventually. Wish it was compatible to load on mine but mostly not. Probably new file codes. Great stuff. Cheers

It's really inspiring to watch you play the instrument. I'm trying to absorb as much as I can, especially when it comes to OTS and registrations. I'll never play as well as you, but I'll watch and try to learn. I "only" have a Genos 1 (and upgrading to the Genos 2 is no longer within my financial means), but you're right when you say that you never get tired of playing the instrument. This also applies to the Genos 1. I will continue to watch you. Thanks!

Hello dear friend Leigh, I have known your channel for some time now, and I admit that since the release of this Genos 2, I come more regularly to watch your numerous and very interesting presentation videos of this fabulous keyboard. To be honest, I left with rather negative preconceptions, regarding what I expected to see. 6 years of patience had undoubtedly dangled too many things to me and the frustration was real. However, and having a Tyros 4 10th anniversary largely "vitaminized" since its acquisition, I must admit the real leap forward in the sound reproduction (voices and styles) perceived. Like you, I really appreciate the YAMAHA interface, very easy to understand and ergonomic. In the future, could you make a census of the new sounds compared to Genos 1 by putting them in a playing situation of course. That would be really nice! Likewise, I have a lot of questions about the arpeggiator; Has it evolved? Ditto for the multi pad system that I use quite a bit with the T4. Here are some avenues that I would like to see you explore. In any case, thank you and congratulations for your videos, very qualitative, as well as your excellent level of play, always very eclectic. Sincerely yours. Mysterio.

Do you know why you are verry different Leigh? It seams like 99% of middle aged men or older, only play 60s, 70s or 80s music. THANK GOD we got someone who knows how to play and also plays 90s and 00s music. Dance, trance but also rock and heavy rock guitars. The fast and heavy stuff. FANTASTIC. From about the 50th minute until 75 minute, it's dance or rock. 60 70 and 80s are fantastic, but not the only music out there.

One of these days Yaamaha will be giving you a call and asking your advice with some of the elements contained in the styles on Genos 2, particularly the OTS parts. Maybe when the next firmware release is on the cards your phone will ring. Your take on the way some elements have been programmed, to me at least, seems spot on. One thing is for sure what Yamaha have created here, in the Genos 2, is an astounding instrument. I wish I had a fraction of your playing skills because I would buy one of these in a heart beat. At the minute I just couldnt get the best from this machine. Maybe one day.

Hopefully nobody will mind if I ask a noob and potentially dumb question please 😊I currently own quite a few synths, 3 of which are Yamaha synths (MOXF, MODX and Montage) and I was thinking that my next keyboard might be something a bit different so am investigating the Genos2. When you play a style, can you change that style as you are playing it by removing some of the instruments in that style? For example the Waltz style that is playing first of all - if I just wanted drums and bass to sound from that, can I mute the other parts of it? I’m used to doing this sort of thing on my Montage when there’s a complex Performance. Hopefully you can understand what I mean and I do realise I might have got some terminology wrong here !!

I have a Korg PA1000 and you are correct. It gets boring after a while. I want the Genos 2, but will wait for a few months for the bugs to be fixed. I think the option do disable the feature of locked drawbars should be added. I admit to getting a little frustrated with it now - Have to jolt them up and down to get it to change... not the best idea. I think give the user the choice and then you can have it the way it used to be or the new way.

I’ve had a Tyros 4 for (hate to think) around 10 years but I’ve learned more about driving the machine by watching this video than I’ve picked up over those years. In particular, the ease of changing intros, variations and OTS choices. I was relying on imported Yamaha styles and Registrations which, mainly being from earlier instruments, don’t often use the dynamic performance of the Tyros. You did however focus on the weakest area of both the Tyros and the Genus 2, namely the poor allocation of the OTS voices. I know now how to fix that. Problem now is, do I stick to my Tyros 4 or splash out on a Genos 2? At 81, I think I might just do that. Can’t take it with you.

Is it possible to get full use of this keyboard without using the touch screen? The reason I am asking this is because I am totally blind and Yamaha have not made the touchscreen accessible. What really frustrates me, is the fact that touchscreens can be made accessible. I know this because I am typing this on an iPhone using the built-in screen reader. I’ve been looking for a keyboard, that I’m able to use, but they all seem to have touchscreens these days.

You would be a great demonstrator for Yamaha Genos 2. But let me ask you a question, I can see you play everything in the key of C. Did you only master that key? Or is there another reason why you do this? Not trying to be a smary@ss, but just wondering. I think you play wonderfull

Hi Leigh, I’m new to your channel. I think you have convinced me to upgrade to the Genos 2 ( currently using sx600) But this is going to sound like a dumb question but I have never owned or even seen a Genos so does it have internal speakers ? Or do you have to buy the external speakers. That Texas Blue is awesome. Thanks for all of your videos they have been fabulous and a great help

@neicyfourtysix I own a Genos 1 for three years now and never get tired of playing it. Although there are differences to the Genos 2, the features are roughly the same. The Genos does not have built-in speakers but is prepared to operate suitable speakers, which can be purchased relatively cheaply as a bundle. The speaker set comes with a subwoover and has a very good sound for home use. Otherwise, there are of course audio and auxiliary outputs. I hope this information helps you. As I said, the Genos 1 was (and is) worth every cent, and I expect the same from the Genos 2 after everything I've heard and seen so far.

Leigh, I do appreciate the time that you've taken to put these videos together. There is no doubt that the Genos 2 is a great keyboard. You said that Yamaha has changed the style format. Is that a change from the Genos 1, or something else? I have another question for you. While I haven't opened up a Genos style, I do have a .psr style that I've opened as a MIDI file. I can see the introductions, the four variations and the ending parts. What I don't see, and this is what I'm wondering about is 'does it matter what kind of chord you play, will it always play back the same backing style for the chord type?' What I mean by that is I see a C chord that's played, and I realize that all keyboards do a transposition from C to whatever chord you're playing. So, if you have a bass track, and it's playing 'C-G-C-G' over a two bar pattern, and you play a C7 chord, is it going to play C-G-C-Bb over a two bar pattern? If you play a diminished chord, will the pattern change beyond just the notes changing? So, say a style has an 8 bar repeating pattern for the style. You play a C chord and over that 8 bars it will play a specific pattern. If I change the chord to a C dim, or a C aug, or a C9#11 or other jazz chord, does that pattern over the 8 bars change, or do just the notes change? Finally, will Genos 2 support older Genos and .psr files if they've changed the style for it? If not, then Yamaha is going to have to release all new files. According to John Beasley over at 'Genos Magic' all his upgrades should work with Genos 2. One thing you have stated about about 10 minutes in, which I TOTALLY agree with you on is that the Yamaha keyboard, the PSR series, the Tyros, the Genos, whatever, is easier to use. You don't have to go hunting down menu after menu and do a deep dive to change a setting, like the reverb. I think the reflects a different philosophy between Yamaha and others. From the earliest days I remember, back in the 80s when I was selling pianos, keyboards and organs, Yamaha was always 'user friendly.' Even the magnificent HX-1 organ (used in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie 'Running Man') was very easy to sit down at and figure out the basic details easily. Korg allows you to dig into the details of the sound, but it takes a lot more to do it. I've always felt that Yamaha was the keyboard that you take out to gig with. The One Man Band sort of thing, in a cafe or on a street corner, for the musician who wants to have something very easy to play and perform and have that ease of use, and gratification of the audience. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Korg, on the other hand, I've always felt was more for music production. You're sitting down and writing a song from scratch, and you want to produce something that you can take to a music distributor and say 'This is complete, this is exactly the way I want it to sound.' The two are different. I think Yamaha is easier to play and present something for live audiences, Korg, in the end, if you do it properly, is more of an 'airplay-ready' finished product. My two cents (pence 😂) At 22 minutes in, 'I have a jukebox in my head!' You have no concept how I wish I did! LOL. I congratulate you on that. I've known a couple of people like that, fine musicians, but drove me crazy because they could play anything they heard and then remembered it for years. By the way, I remember the PS-6100, and yeah, I wanted one, too. Released in 1984. You're correct about 'going back' and you can't help but compare it to your current level of technology. Still, it WAS very cool looking. 😍 I have another question for you. In looking in the manual, I can't find a dedicated 'Drawbars' button or selector. I can find Drawbar as a preset sound, but it doesn't appear to be a directly editable drawbar configuration. I see that you can select to edit the sound, which will bring up the drawbar display, and at that point you can edit them. But, there doesn't seem to be any way that you can just press a single button to put the sliders directly into Drawbar mode. Am I missing something on this? I mean, I'm thinking, and maybe you could use the Registration buttons to get around this, but if I wanted to have real time adjustable drawbars, and then switch to a jazz guitar, but then go back to adjustable drawbars (and have the same setting as I left them), is that possible to do?

At about 6:45 in the video, you were saying that you didn't like the OTS for number four for the country style you were playing. In a glance at the manual, it says that I can change that and save it, but it saves it to a completely new style. I can't overwrite the OTS for that particular style, at least it seems that way. If I changed the strings to a fiddle, as you did, and I think it sounds so much better that way, but I wanted to save it, now I have to save it as a User Style? Why? To me, that doesn't make sense. I change instrument sounds for a lot of my Single Touch Settings on my Korg, and I just overwrite the original style with the new instrument sound I want. If I had to save it elsewhere, I would, eventually, run out of space to save my own personal files. To me, that just is weird because the original style never changes, and I don't want the instrument sounds that have been chosen for the original style.

Please don't take this as a negative comment but you missed a great opportunity to show that you can change the voices on the ots and save the setting for next time. On my t3 and probably all tyros there is a repatoir button that for your current style it lists some of the songs that you can play with that style. Since you appear to be reviewing styles I wonder why you are not using this facility or at least giving it a nod. Thanks for some nice videos. Keep up the good work, I wish I could do a fraction of what you do.

Some of the voice choices are bizarre 8n genos imo. It should let you overright factory voicing and style settings etc as you have to create a user memory which is not as convenient to access as internals. A simple revert option to any setting can't be beyond the s/w engineers.

Hi Leigh, very interesting demo. Can't help notice that you tend to play a lot of your little tunes with just a right 1 voice, rarely any voice in the left and create chords in the left with the style. Is that right? Appreciate you use the variations and OTS buttons too.

Trust me I played the 5X for a long time and it made me angry every time I sat at it. It's been the only keyboard that made me feel this way, even the 4x was easier to use than the 5. Unless Korg takes a serious look at their interface, they could have the best sounds and styles in the world, but it really needs a musician to design the interface and not someone from NASA.

Actually, he can get paid : he has to learn about time signatures: once he learns what time signatures are , that is when musicians use time signatures: at right timing signatures, they will sign blank checks with their signatures in time signatures. Blank checks. So he needs to where time signatures are used . 😲🤭😙😅😂🤣
