My Dad, Richard, has already ordered his and is eagerly awaiting the stock to come in. He has always been a keyboard enthusiast and I remember growing up in a household where I could sit and play on a top of the range keyboard or organ. He only buys from Bonners and often says that Tony is one of the nicest, most friendly and knowledgeable people he has ever met. I'll always remember going along to Bonners one day to check out a new keyboard with my Dad (I was about 15, so this was back around '95) and spying a dusty "well-used" Roland CR-78 on a shelf at the back of the shop. I was allowed to have a play with it but couldn't convince Dad that it was a good purchase. It's worth a lot more now than it was back then and would sound so good with my Roland TB-303 and MC-202. I'm looking forward to having a play on the Genos, many of the riffs and chords I use in the music I write for pleasure were first devised on keyboards bought from Bonners. Great demo as well, your videos have introduced Dad to the wonders of KZbin! Oh, and I love it at 22:32, one of Dad's favourite pieces to play.

I'm seriously looking into buying a Yamaha arranger next year. If a Genos is too pricey I would settle for either a Tyros 2 or it's successors. But the Tyros 5 is still a fantastic keyboard. I would even be willing to maybe part exchange my PSR-295 as I hardly ever use it anymore.

@@richardford6235 I didn't buy one in the end partly because things didn't work out for me at work so therefore I can't afford to buy anything that's over a grand. But also I came to the conclusion that arranger keyboards are really intended for people who learn to play songs using the auto accompaniments rather than a tool for music production even though you can do midi sequencing on an arranger keyboard. But instead I used the money to buy a new computer as Cubase no longer runs properly on my old computer, to be honest I only really considered a Tyros keyboard as a hardware alternative to Halion 6 because I had some concern weather or not it would install properly on my new computer but I actually have Halion 7 which also includes FM Lab which is very similar to the FM synthesis on Montage and MODX. I also rebought a Roland SC-55 as an acquaintence had one many years ago but sold it way back in 1996. Before I resigned I did come very close to buying a Tyros 5. Last summer I was also very tempted to buy a black Tyros 4, maybe I should have played it safe and bought that but it's understandable why I didn't make a snap decision. But on the bright side I have managed to help other people make a better choice in buying the right type of keyboard appropriate to their needs even though I used to think otherwise.

I’m a blind keyboard player and out of all the ones I’ve had so far I’ve found the tyros the most easiest to access the styles and voices on. So I was wondering, is it essential to use the touchscreen on this keyboard or can I do everything on it without the touchscreen? Also, how exactly do I store the one touch settings in the registration memory? If I don’t have to use the touchscreen, I think I’m going to get one of these when my previous workstation gives up the ghost. I found this review really helpful in terms of the styles and the articulation. I totally agree with what you’re saying! There are huge improvements to the sounds on this on the tire us!

Yamaha's saxophone sounds never disappoint me, just as one would expect it's an improvement on the already good Super Articulation saxophones introduced on Tyros 2. But the most impressive sounds on the Genos are it's Revo Drums. I already knew Lonnie Donegan recorded Sloop John B isn't that funny, but it's actually a public domain song. I really like Andrew Gilbert's arrangement of Sloop John B especially with the saxophone and the brass complete with a glissando.

Hi Guys Congratulation...what a great Demo presentation, exactly what I was looking for, after checking out all the others for the last two weeks, most of them left me very disappointed. I got a Tyros5 and listening to all the Demos I thought..."Not worth upgrading to "Genos." Then I checked out your Demo and that made a massive difference, convinced me and now I have one on Order, which will arrive at the end of the month. I think, the problem with most Demonstrators is, the try to impress, so the play always mostly super fast, with lot of noise, which becomes very boring after a while. Your Demo is different, as it actually in nice clear, simple way shows, how the "Genos" actually sounds great and different from Tyros. I'm sure your great presentation will sell more "Genoses" to the wider public Keyboard players, than just to a few pros and I whish you all the Best. PS: Unfortunately...I wont be able to buy my "Genos" from you, as I live in New Zealand. But I shall spread the Word anyway and have subscribed to your KZbin channel..my favorite now.

Hi there, and thank you for a very nice and instructive demo! Two questions: 1) Can Yamaha Genos be connected to a 88 keys keyboard, e.g. Yamaha CP4 as I have, so that I can play all the sounds from the Yamaha Genos included stored preferences, on my 88 key keyboard? Meaning that e.g. the pianosound from the Yamaha Genos will spread on all 88 keys on the Yamaha CP4. 2) Can the Yamaha Genos be used as a drum and bass machine? Meaning that I can record a certain drum pattern with fill in in the places I program them to be, including variation in the beats and also the stop? Can bass lines also be programmed on top of such a drum beat, as well as other sounds? This can be useful for use in my own production of music. On top of such a recording I can play on another instrument. Hoping for an answer to this, thank you. Best regards from Stein
@bonnersmusic6 жыл бұрын
Hello Stein. Thank you very much for your comments. Yes, you can do all of these things using the Yamaha Genos with the Multi recording features, and you can use your CP4 as a Midi controller to access all of the sounds within the Genos across all 88 notes should you wish. For more details about how to do these things, check out the Genos Manual pdf on the Yamaha UK Website.

Great demo and playing. Where do you actually get music written for keyboard use? Traditional piano music has full notes for left and right hand and I can see that the keyboard can be played well with less going on with the left hand and the right hand carrying the melody. As a musician, it is my belief that a really great keyboard/piano player can sound better on a PSR S910 or a PSR S975 than a mediocre player on a Genos. In other words, the keyboard is only as good as the ability the musician has to understand how instruments sound and mastering the pitch bend etc. I have played a PSR S710 and people have told me I make it sound like a Tyros for example. So that's my humble opinion. What do you people think?
@4thesakeofitname4 жыл бұрын
Agree 100 %... I'm an amateur home keyboard player (not much left hand other than up to 7th, 9th, 11th, accompanimenting). I have a 5 years-old Yamaha PSR E433 (entry level basic functionality) at home for personal entertainment. When I bought it, I thought anything better would be an overkill for my skills (actually for my budget ;-) when compared to DGX-650 at that moment ). And since than I was dreaming of having a better keyboard something like DGX-650, PSR-S950 (or now PSR-SX900), or even a Motif, Tyros etc., thinking that I would sound much better on those devices... Untill the Covid-19, I was just using mine for daily 20 minute relaxation moments, and not much improvement... But for the last few months I've spent my almost whole time on it, and I can see the daily improvement especially on learning new songs and functionalities of the keyboard, and as I play better (better songs and better fingering) it started to sound more and more professional with the same device... I have also seen that the keyboard already had some surprising features (such as a six-track sequencer - song recorder, and 8x4 register memory, style update through usb [which I thought was only found on pro-devices!] and auto arpeggio) that I didn't even notice for five years... And I must admit,recently I have seen another demo for one of the top notch keyboards, and some voices in it are almost identical to those in my entry level device... Of course there are great differences too, the pro devices has some killer realistic sounds and after touch effects, and if I could afford I would definitely buy one of those pro keyboards, but all I want to say is that, as you have said, a good player would definetely make a good sound out of any instrument, as it is the ART of playing what really matters at the end...

Hi guys, On the tyros 5 there was a button "recommended" to let the workstation choose a style. You chose the tempo, selected 3/4 or 4/4 measure and played the melody. The tyros then gave 8 possible preferences. Where is that option at the Genos?

Tony, here in the U.S., we don't really have the 'home market' as much as it seems you do in the U.K. I'm happy to see that the U.K. does have more 'home players' than here. I currently own a Korg PA800, and while it's been a wonderful keyboard for me, it is getting long in tooth. I've had to replace both the power supply and the touch screen display. Compared to some of the newer keyboards, the sounds aren't quite as realistic, the styles need to be updated (yes, I could load my own, but I'm not that good at that). and overall, I'd like a newer keyboard, preferably one with 76 keys. I've been a Korg fan since the original i3 came out, and at that time, I was selling pianos, organs and keyboards, and the Korg just blew them away. Compared to the Tyros 5, I still think the PA4X Pro is a better keyboard, but in listening to this demo with Andy, the Genos has come a long way forward for Yamaha. I like Yamaha products, pianos, Clavinovas, etc., but for the past few years, I've thought the PA arrangers were better than anything Yamaha produced. Since you've have the opportunity to play both, extensively, if you had to lay down your hard earned cash for the Genos with the speaker set, or the PA4X Pro with the PAas system, which would it be, and why? I can't purchase from Bonners, unfortunately, but I would like your opinion. You guys have the BEST review videos on keyboards on the net, and I trust you.
