I see this is an old video, but I did this mod to my 2016 250x and it made a huge difference. It made the power valve open up much earlier ( similar to the yz) which made it a lot more predictable. I believe the newer x's come with the power valve tension close to this mod.

@user-fz8fy4zl1cno I have 2 yz’s. One is an X other is a 2006. This was off the 2006 yz

Does it make much difference? or is a more compressed head better?

This is old info! YZ tuners changed the spring as part of tuning tricks. Washer wasn't removed to maintain bearing reliability.

Good video but you would think that removing that washer which the bearing rides on would not be good which may cause this to wear out a lot faster and yes the power valve will open a lot sooner now. Does Yamaha offer a softer spring instead? I know that they changed to cylinder head on the YZ250x and it is a lower compression head. If your current cylinder head has the "5up" stamped in it my the spark plug hole then that's the higher compression YZ head. Just my 2 cents and I hope this worked ok for you.

Not sure why you would think the lack of that washer would cause more wear. If they are both of the same brinnel hardness there is no difference. If anything the pressure is less now so wear would be less. I couldn’t tell much a difference and went back to stock configuration.

@@chadrides914 I understand as to what you mean and I have worked on bikes for many years and I have seen my share of modifications like this that worked just fine and other modifications that turned out to be a disaster. I just hate to see something get messed up and wind up costing more to fix if there was a better solution that's why I questioned it. Just my 2 cents.

How’d this work out for you? Have a 250x and I’m thinking about trying it

Unfortunately the ride day I planned to go out was 20F, and my carby started icing and plugged the pilot jet. Bike ran bad the entire ride had to call it quits, so I couldn’t give it a good evaluation. Sorry.

@@chadrides914 how about now? Any update on how this impacted the power valve? I would think this would open the power valve later but I'm not really sure on that.

The washer is there so it will wear out before it wears out that special collard washer that will one day magically become obsolete and people will charge $50+ for used on eBay lmao but I definitely believe it will help would like to see some final results
@chadrides9142 жыл бұрын
@@kodileecalvert7139 I agree the washer wears and replacement of the washer is cheap. If the collared spacer wears then it’s an expensive replacement. But I don’t believe one would wear faster than the other unless the hardness between the two metals is different. At time of filming this unit had 256hrs of wear on the washer.
