Today finally, a few hours of Fun, Relaxing and De-stressing on the 1977 Yamaha IT 400. Today I will ride 60 miles in the Pennsylvania Wilds, thru some fun, wet, muddy trails. After Restoring this Classic Bike a few years back, • 1977 Yamaha IT400 Rest... I look forward to running her as often as possible, This weekend I got a chance to hit the trails and enjoy the Beast. I owned a 78 400 IT that I bought when I got out of high school in 1984. Best trail bike I ever owned. Never loaded up , could ride the trails all day with no problems and I could keep up with YZs and the KZs. I could never out run them but I never lost them on the trails either. Owned it for 10 years and sold it for $300. Still regret that decision today !!!

I just picked up a 1976 model of IT400 yesterday. It runs but it is in need of some TLC, the fuel tank being one of the major requirements. The filler neck threads are broken off into the gas cap. So I'm in the process of looking at reproduction gas tanks. But the earliest model year they offer is for 1977. Do you know if the early 1976 model kept the same style of gas tank as the 1977 model year? I've found new reproduction plastics for it no problem but finding a new fuel tank is kind of iffy. They offer them for every other model year except for 1976.

I am not sure but I think the 76 is a one year only .. keep looking for a tank, they do pop up here and there . best of luck with all, it is a great bike and a easy/fun bike to restore and RIDE!

@@enjoytheridesports7343 I'm going to see if I can salvage the current tank with a universal filler neck for a boat. I found a plastic one that looks like it might work. The tank itself is decent and useable it's just kind of missing the threads for the gas cap. :)

Just curious how hard this was to plate in PA. I also live in PA and am almost done with getting my fathers 1976 IT all finished up. Never thought about plating it till I saw your video.

If you have a title it should be no issue ... the issue may come in getting it inspected you need a rear brake light, I added a micro switch under the rear brake and wired it up so when i hit the brake the rear light brake light comes on after that find a inspection station and bang on the road i all so put on dot road dirt bike tires so the bike was totally almost legal good luck i hope that helps Tony. .... ps I only ride her in the rural areas like the mountains not to be harassed in my area. the 76 is rad, hope to see you out there and as always enjoy the ride.

I had a 79 IT400 back in the early 80s that was titled and tagged when I bought it but I never tagged it. BTW, where are these trails? I'm in Harrisburg Pa and looking for cool places to ride my crf250l.

Allegheny national park 60 miles of trails, or Majestic lost trails ..my favorite! both north west of you. they are a blast! Enjoy The Ride Robert.
