These videos are great! Are you going to be doing any more like this? I'd love to see one on the Yamaha Eric Aubier Signature Series mouthpiece.
@JonTalksTrumpet Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I have many more Yamaha pieces scanned and ready to go - still need to get a brand new Aubier though....

I own this Yamaha model and the Jeff Parker version. And my perception is that the inside diameters are narrower than a typical 7C mouthpiece. In your video, you report that the mouthpiece measures .615 inches, which jibes with my perception: most mouthpiece charts list a 7C at .640 inches and a 10.5C at .620 inches. So this Yamaha inside diameter is approximately around a 10.C. I guess the 1B size/shaped cup with open throat and symphonic backbone give this mouthpiece the gorgeous orchestral sound.
@JonTalksTrumpet Жыл бұрын
So the thing about this is that the measurement I quoted is measured at about .095" into the mouthpiece, where the hagstrom is at .615 diameter. Most comparison charts use a measurement that is less deep into the mouthpiece (like .05") where the diameter is bigger leading to some confusion. It's at the .095" depth where the Hagstrom is similar diameter to a 7 rim, not further up. The shape of the rim itself also lends a lot to the perceived size - a 7 is a fairly round rim while the hagstrom is quite flat with maybe a more built up inner edge so that may be why the Hagstrom might feel smaller to you. I will try to be clearer about where the rim measurements I'm using are being calculated - it's a CONFUSING topic!

Do you think it plays better on a C trumpet than on a Bb ?
@JonTalksTrumpet4 жыл бұрын
For me, it does work better on C, but I do tend to prefer a smaller backbore on Bb than C so it’s just my personal preference.

How would you describe the bite on the rim?
@JonTalksTrumpet3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonah! So it’s sort of complicated actually but the simple answer is that the bite is extremely smooth - almost as smooth as the Hickman mouthpiece. The rim curves very gently into the cup, and then there is a straight drop down until it intersects with the 1B cup. Hopefully that makes sense to you!

@@JonTalksTrumpet thanks Jon! That’s exactly what I needed. By the way, I love your videos! Keep em coming!
