It's like a completely new model, the engines even better than before but the handling has transformed it into a serious track day weapon, it's no longer in the shadow of the Street triple, KTM890R or Monster 950.

Yeah, we noticed, but since we've ridden both and we didn't want to put anyone off who's trying to learn about the base model we decided to leave it off the title. It's not exactly like we hid the fact in the test.

Of all the professional reviews here in youtube you are of one of the two I've seen so far who pointed out the biggest weakness of MT09 which is the handling. The bike can't turn well. I hope in this second generation it's been addressed to some degree. I'd love to see how 2021 MT09,890R, and 2021 Monster perform in the racetrack and finish as a winner.

Check out Tank Slapper Moto. He has short videos and on 1 or 2 occasions spoke about the short lock & turn radius. Hes in England and said it's not that big if a deal for him plus the roads are smaller than mine here in Silicon Valley/Bay Area California. There's another guy I found I will link his video below. His 10k mile review of MT09SP. Long video but excellent info with demonstrating u turns near the end of video while fueling up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2nclYKbf7SWlbs

Glad I finally found a review with someone more American sized like me. I should be taking home a base model in a couple days. I wanted the sp version, but it seems like trying to get your hands on one of those right now, is equivalent to that of a ps5. Which I know that struggle all too well. This just made me more confident with my decision, because while I’m short. I’m also smuggling a case of beer in my jacket. So I was hoping this bike was up to task. Seems to be the case. Thanks guys for the great review.

@@PhrozenPhlanges Thats not what alot of people have been saying about it. Theyre saying that its smooth, like all inline fours, but is tuned for a little more torque. So, I think a direct comparison would be nice, since they're in more or less direct competition. Edit: There are actually a couple direct comparisons, but they're in Hindi (at least, I think its Hindi).
@PhrozenPhlanges
@PhrozenPhlanges 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnconti1329 same can be said of the mt09, torque is there in any gear and any rpm, smooth, tbh though, I can keep up with most bigger bikes through twisty roads on my sv650 until I get stuck behind a car and don't have the power to overtake in short sections of road between blind corners, that's where I like my mt09 because it does have the power, I enjoy the sound and power characteristics of both bikes so won't be selling my sv650. The inline 4's are just boring though by comparison. I have an old bandit 1200 and Hayabusa too, hardly ride them.
@johnconti1329
@johnconti1329 3 жыл бұрын
@@PhrozenPhlanges Gonna be honest, I had an 01 SV650 myself, so reading that does actually hit home a little more. I was, quite honestly, pretty sold on the Kawasaki, but this makes it a bit more of an apples to apples comparison on account of we're sort of coming from the same place. To my mind, anyway.

If you have one of these, or the non-SP, like me, do yourself a favour. Go to your favourite twisty exciting stretch of road and I guarantee you will be able to ride that road and feel like a demi-god afterwards, with the greatest grin you've had on that road ever. The way this thing moves along is just so right. The whole package complements it's individual parts, and indeed is more than the sum of them

I felt that way when I test rode it on a section of twisty road I was familiar with on my 2017 sv650 which has full suspension upgrades. I ended up buying it this Friday just been but it's winter here and we just had a pretty wet weekend so haven't gotten out for a proper ride yet.

And Matt, which way have you gone ? I'm having exactly the same problem, not knowing which one to get. Seems like the standard mt is the one to go when keeping the price in consideration. Had a Tracer 900 2015, absolutely loved it, could trash it around like I did many, many years ago on the SM-t. Also had an SP 2018, and for some reason, while I loved the engine, the rest of the bike felt odd when going for the corners, it was just off. My next bike really has to be an allrounder for an aging bloke, nearly 57(nice powerwheelies , getting the knee down, but also has to be a good commuter and be able to take me on weekends). I've looked at virtually everything by now, and every day it seems the choice is getting harder and harder, maybe I'm just overthinking it .

My 2021 mt 09 is my first triple. To be honest I thought it would have more top end. A great bike, but I am planning on gearing mine down for even more torque. I find all new bikes too high geared. It is deceptively fast though and I can easily find myself faster than I think

Put 3000 miles on in the first month, no commuting, just pleasure riding. Great bike, handles great, but maybe for my likes I should have gone with a liter bike or four cylinder just because of my tastes. Will have to see what it's like after I gear it down as that usually makes it a completely different animal
@V742
@V742 3 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of bikes get geared higher than intended to help pass emissions tests, plus lower rpm at higher speeds improves the fuel economy. I don't remember which manufacturer it was (possibly Ducati), but they either offered an immediate chain and sprocket change when buying the bike new or were basically telling people to change it to the intended gearing asap.

We would agree, almost, with a European price difference of 1500 euros. But in South Africa the price difference, for some reason, is nearly 3000 euros and so we simply can't recommend the SP. For 3000 euros you can make your own upgrades and get a SP Plus level of performance, and still have a bit of change left over for... whatever.
