If you want to know how all the electronics work (and how to work the electronics) on Yamaha’s 2021 MT-09, the best person to ask is a man from Yamaha. So that’s what we did. He explained to us how to access the menus, and set up the ABS, traction control, wheel-lift control (not the same as anti-wheelie), slide control riding modes

A lot to take in but once you have the bike set up to your riding style it gives you leeway to change if you find conditions determine. My son has just bought an MT09 and will find this useful as he has come from a very basic bike set up before. I'm a fan of electronics as it can help you push on safely.

I have a 2022 model and have owned 37 bikes over the last 65 years. The MT09 is a dream machine for any job. I hear silly little complaints about 09 but only from fairly new riders who have been spoiled by technology. Hey I didn’t have a gas gauge till the 80s and cruise control was a stuck throttle. My only complaint is I would love another 1.5 gallons tank capacity. Plus the body I had back in 1962.

Runs like a dream serviced every 2k miles since 60k miles. Been remaped full Acro + k&n air filter after run in 600miles. So my point is there really is no need for all this new electronic restriction Systems they put on the 2021bikes. Its a fast bike older 1s even faster, just treat all fast bikes with respect

I own the 22 tracer9gt but I lament not having the SEVENTY pound lighter MTSP ...what would be ideal for me is the MT with some wind protection, A lot of the tracer's extra weight is the beegy steel sub frame for luggage and 2 up touring the rest of the added weight is center stand and larger fuel tank along with the extra petrol I dont need the beefy subframe and could easily do without a center stand....all that weight really cuts into the agility and fun factor! Maybe I need to own BOTH bikes. But seriously how much weight would be added with some wind protection? What maybe 10 pounds of body work/fairing windscreen? THEN this bike could do long day cruises AND still be full hooligan! Tank range is not much of an issue in southern california anyway

Help? I'm about to do my first track day in my 2023 MT-09-SP and I'm trying to figure out if I can scroll back through all of the lap times that I might log in a 10 lap session , before shutting don the bike , or if I have to take note of those times while I'm riding and before I log the next one. The owners manual does not go into detail and I can't seem to figure out how to scroll back through times but rather can only see the prior lap while on the current lap. This will be distracting while riding if I want to know what my actual times are. Surely there must be a temporary memory of all of the the laps in a session? Help?

Great explanation BUT he missed what the D Modes actually do to throttle response... as the numbers increase it mellows out the throttle response so 4 is the most gentle throttle response and 4 also actually limits peak engine power. Conversely D Mode 1 is the sharpest throttle response. D Modes 1, 2 and 3 do not limit peak power like 4 (like a rain mode), but D modes 2 and 3 do mellow the throttle response so its less sharp.

I'm looking for the same info, are TCS 1 = all three at level 1 and then TCS 2 = all three at level 2? And then manual all three adjustable between off/1/2/3?
@markfletcher443
@markfletcher443 Жыл бұрын
I found this out online as I was wondering too. The TCS has three switchable modes, and each mode integrates three of the rider support systems, meaning that the intervention levels are all changed at once in Modes 1 and 2. Mode 1 delivers moderate intervention, while Mode 2 gives strong intervention and Mode M enables the rider to select manual settings. By preventing wheel lock-ups and slides, as well as wheel spin and wheelies, these electronic aids reduce the workload of the rider, allowing full concentration on the road ahead.
@itsmematt7491
@itsmematt7491 2 жыл бұрын
I noticed the guy from Yamaha said ‘LIF’ control is just about how quickly the wheel comes up. Does this mean that the IMU doesn’t intervene if it thinks you’re about to do a massive flip? Also I think he got d-mode and TCS-mode the wrong way around. I think D mode is actually how aggressive the power comes in. I’m sure 4 actually limits the power also to make it more of a tame rain mode. 1-3 changing engine response only with 1 being the most responsive.

No it doesn't. He said that. It allows you to lift the will at any height you like but in more controlled way if like. I am using mode 4 as a city riding, the bike feels more like a scooter than an MT-09 SP animal. Mode 1 is more responsive to the throttle input than 2 and mode 3 is a bit more energetic than mode 4

There's some errors there. You can't change TCS to M and from M while riding. You must stop to do that. You can change from 1 to 2 and change all D-Modes but not TCS M. I find that a stupid idea from Yamaha but I understand why. You could have M with all OFF and doing it by mistake while riding and crash because of that

You seem pretty knowledgeable about the electronics on this bike and for myself who is going to be getting an MT09 soon I was wondering if you don’t have M selected i.e with your personal settings for TC, SC and LC are these preset depending on which Drive mode you are in? So do the parameters for TC, SL and LC change depending on the Drive mode you select even if you don’t select your own personal M controls? Hope that makes sense. Thanks, Mark
@DJSixty
@DJSixty Жыл бұрын
@@markfletcher443 Hi, no. The presets of the traction control, lift and slide are a different setting altogether (power modes) For the new MT10 you can have riding modes where you set everything in different modes. But I can tell you I only ride in power mode 3 because it makes all the power and torque (just as 1 and 2) but with a softer and easier to control manner. And I test it in the dyno as well.

That's an interesting point. When these rider aids first came out I found myself riding like a clumsy chump just to try and provoke them as part of the road test. That was clearly a dumb thing to do. Now the systems have got a lot better they are actually becoming a rider-aid as opposed to a safety net. But, yes, you're right, they do allow you to get away with more which needs a bit more self-control.

But the latest generation are pretty much undetectable - you don't really feel them working, but also you don't crash and the bike doesn't feel as nervous or twitchy as you expect.
