Passed my MSF on a small 2022 Kawasaki Z125 Pro but my beginner bike is a 2022 Yamaha MT03. I'm having trouble with the downshifting; keep getting heavy jolting going down from 4th or 3rd gears 🥲 Didn't have any trouble on the Z125 😅 These bike specific videos are very helpful 👌🏻 I live in Richlands NC so the roads are very much like were you're riding in this video. Getting to a parkinglot to "practice" aint happenin'. Unfortunately, I have to practice and make errors on these roads with tailgaiters 😒

Have an MTO3 got about 2,500 miles on it. I shift it pretty basic when I'm out just riding basic but it's nice to know when you need to get the power going you can definitely rev it up to about 10,000 RPM it definitely it will pull. I've done 85 to 90 on the highway no problem. I use mine for DoorDashing I get about 55 to 60 mi per gallon. Definitely will pop a wheelie in first gear but you got to be about 9,000 RPM to get the wheel off the ground. Basically my work bike for DoorDash. I ride in Indian scout for my main bike for long trips and for more fun. The MTO3 is basically my door dashing make money bike. But as a lot of fun to ride definitely an upgrade for my ADV150 that I was doordashing on before

That's awesome. They're great bikes. I've actually considered doing deliveries on the bike but didn't know how that would work out with some of the bigger orders. And yes, if you need it, it's here. It's not my ZX6-R but it is able to get you there no problem. I always loved the mpgs.

@justposi it's very exciting. It's a great bike not only to start out on but all around a great bike. I never really got bored of it other than highway riding. And my dream bike has always been the zx6r so my mt03 got stolen and beat up pretty bad so I had to jump on the zx6r! You will not be disappointed and I spent a lot of time with the Mt and changed quite a bit so if you need any advice or input I'm more than happy to help you out.

I was dumb and left it outside and don't have any garage or any way to store it. I also live right in the middle of town. The zx sits in the kitchen lol. I definitely recommend a tracker I have the monimoto and they will call you. It's very sensitive. I have a video on it. They call as soon as it comes off the kick stand. I actually got it back but the damage was done.

Im glad this answered all your questions! If you have any ithers feel free to share. I still consider myself new to it but i have started on the mt03 and do have quite a few miles on it considering I only started in march. And OMG the 600 mile oil change is outrageous to me. Haha. I daily it and also usually go on a decent sized ride at least a couple times a month. I would have to do it at least once a month if not more. I usually just go till it starts to discolor. Also the oil light will come on when it's time for an oil change.

Interesting stuff, I don’t think I’ve ever exceeded 7000 rpm on my MT 03. I try to change into sixth at about 4000 rpm. There’s normally a 60 mph speed limit here in England so 6000 is normally my cruising rpm. I’m getting just over 100 mpg but our gallons are slightly larger than yours. It would be interesting to hear about what bike you would like to progress on to after the MT ?
@boringkhaos
@boringkhaos 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah ours are typically 55 or 70 on highway. But I like to play haha. I get about 50 mpg. And try it one day even if you hit it in 2nd gear you will feel an incredible difference in torque around 7-8k. My dream bike is a zx-6r. Preferably 18-newer.

When u shift gears, are u depressing the clutch, letting off throttle, and shifting simultaneously?
@boringkhaos
@boringkhaos Жыл бұрын
As close to simultaneously as possible without being simultaneous if that makes sense. You want to engage the clutch first and then let off the throttle other wise its going to be a rough shift as you're going to apply engine break if you let out of throttle first. And you don't want to be in throttle when you shift, other wise you will get that clunk. So, it's a 1 2 3 in a very fast motion. Because you want to still be in a decent rpm range for the next gear depending on your speed. It sounds difficult but with practice it's nothing.

When does it feel like the front wheel Wants to come up?
@boringkhaos
@boringkhaos Жыл бұрын
It really doesn't unless you're really trying to. Not on the mt03. The main times it feels like it is when you over throttle and dump the clutch in 1st or sometimes even 2nd. In other words Rev the engine and then let the clutch out all at once. Especially in a turn it'll try to pick up. But if you're not trying most likely the front wheel will not come up on a 300.

Good glad to see new riders. The biggest things I can tell you is to ride your ride and stay in your comfort zone. Do not try and impress anyone. Aside from that watch others on KZbin. There are some good informational channels. Learn countersteering and progressive braking. Check out Dan Dan the fireman. He does a lot of breakdowns of accident explaining what happened and what we as riders can do to prevent accidents. Also moto jitsu is another one to check out he does tons of informative videos explaining technical skills. Both of those guys do msf training as well. They're not just random people.

@boringkhaos 4 ай бұрын
@timmit3579 lol some people don't understand and I've had a lot of people ask. You'd be surprised how many people haven't even operated a standard shift transmission and don't understand how it works. I didn't make the video for views I made it cause I have had people ask and figured it could be helpful.
@JohnnieV
@JohnnieV Жыл бұрын
I’m worried if I drop the transmission down 2 gears of the bike will slow me down like hitting the brakes?
@boringkhaos
@boringkhaos Жыл бұрын
It all depends on the throttle and where you are speed wise. Say you're driving casual and in 6th gear and you want to pass or get zoomies. You down shift 2 gears but you Rev match and give it throttle you will accelerate. Now if you do the same with no throttle after shifting it will slow down. Think of it like this. Your engine and transmission spin at the same speed. The clutch is what eases them together. OK your transmission transfers that engine torque to the wheel. If your engine is spinning faster the transmission is going to turn faster (acceleration) if you're transmission is turning faster than the engine (downshift without throttle) the bike is going to slow down to match engine speed. I hope this makes sense and is helpful.

@boringkhaos
@boringkhaos Жыл бұрын
Yes. That's definitely happened to me. Make sure you Rev when downshifting. It doesn't have to be perfect but it helps keep the engine and transmission in the same range. That's just your transmission stopping to try and match the engine.
@njunenc

@Boring Khaos would you be able to explain downshifting a little more? This is only my 3rd day on the mt03. This video has tremendously made a difference from my day 1 vs day 2. I'm having trouble with downshifting now. Not quite sure why or what's happening bc it's also my 1st time doing manual shifting. For example, when I downshift to 2 [or even 1] coming up on a red light and it turns green before I get to it, I seem to have an issue speeding back up to keep going. I know it's probably mostly human (me) error but wanted to see if you could help me understand a bit better.
@boringkhaos
@boringkhaos Жыл бұрын
@Nola June yes its all about Rev matching. Basically you want to blip the throttle as you downshift. I actually did a video on this as well check it out and if you still need more help let me know. I'd be happy to help you out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/noTWq4t-m6aZmKc
