Nice to see someone actually caring about his bike. And thanks for your tutorials! It helped me changing the air filter and sparkplugs.

Hey thanks! I feel confident I can do mine just based on this video! Explained it well! I appreciate it

Useful video and would love to see the slipper clutch install or the repair on the rubber spacers with the loud clutch at idle/no tension. That fix is daunting.

Great video, AGAIN. I want to slipper clutch my tracer 9, but I'm going to wait till you do it lol. Stay safe and keep 2 wheels down bruv.

Thank you for the kind comment 😄 slipper clutch is coming but probably not this riding season. Gonna abuse the stock one some more haha

You have good taste in motorcycles 😉 slipper clutch will certainly be done, but probably next riding season.

Hi just a question can you adjust the factory chain tensioner with the main bolt in the middle???
@olafzijnbuis Жыл бұрын
Are you sure you used the correct oil? When an oil contains friction modifiers it is not intended for a wet clutch application. Friction modifiers are often used in oil for cars.
@Calvinm Жыл бұрын
Yes, I used the exact same oil that was used in its last oil change. 👍 We’re all good.

@@Calvinm Ok. I had a Honda CBX-1000 Prolink from 1982 for 23 years. I always used MOTUL 10W40 half-synthetic oil. Never had any problems. But I would have tried another oil immediately if I experienced clutch slippage. And (for all other readers)... Only use oil that is certified for motorcycles.
@bikersquest Жыл бұрын
Perhaps the previous owner/s used car oil.

I want to see that slipper clutch go in, I thought about upgrading my clutch in my fz09 to a slipper clutch, maybe. But after an ecu flash and being able to remove to engine breaking. I'm not so sure it's really needed.
@Calvinm Жыл бұрын
Interesting! I didn’t know an ecu flash could do that. I mainly want the slipper to eliminate the clutch slip for good and reduce the effort on the clutch lever.
@mr.notsure9679 Жыл бұрын
@Calvinm eliminating the engine breaking helps a lot. I'm not getting any slipping out of my clutch yet, but eliminating the engine breaking has made a big difference for me.

Did you have a low growl when the clutch was released....i have a 15 fz09 and has a slipping issue like that but i also have a concern for the low growl when i have the clutch pulled in no noise ...less then 4000 miles i do like picking up the front wheel and not sure what the last owner did with it i only put 1000 milea so far

Hi how were you able to push the clutch mechanism to remove the cable wire? Mine won’t seem to move at all.
@seanyessmann5 күн бұрын
I think he said he loosened the cable at the lever end by a couple turns before removing the cable wire.

Hi Calvin, thanks for sharing. Very good video. I have the same bike in the UK and am now considering installing the XSR900 Slipper Clutch on my FJ09 (2016). Have you done it? I'm collecting all the info and all the parts I need.

how many miles did your bike have when it started slipping and or when you made this video?
@Calvinm Жыл бұрын
The clutch was slipping when I bought the bike at 54k km’s. (33,000 miles). This video was filmed around 56k km’s.

judging from your video, the primary driven gear has too much play and seems to be shot; I don't think the play has nothing to do with the rattle at idle you mentioned as long it isn't under any load... Instead, you could probably hear a sort of rumble (and a vibration on the pegs) when cruising around and go off the throttle: the primary driven gear is on load and - as the rubber cushions inside are most likely shot - you should get that noise at 2000-3000 rpm. About the sharp edges of the disc, I think that they should go away from the bike.
@Calvinm Жыл бұрын
Your most likely right! After reading more about the sound the FJ makes I think it’s very likely the rubber cushions are shot. I will likely be replacing them next season to sort out that annoying sound. Thanks for the insights 👍

@@Calvinm it's hard to guess, but looking at the steel plates they seem to be in perfect shape... If the springs were in perfect shape too, I wonder if the cork spots of the friction discs were - in the past - came in contact with car oil and so contaminated as they absorb oil; with correct oil change afterwards, they were slowly "recovering". Working them with scotch brite and changing the mounting order could help generating more grip, also. It's kind of too young bike to have that issue. My MT09 (FZ09, same bike) has 80.000km and never had a slippage and still going strong. I will change everything next winter, just to be safe on long trips abroad
