@@ManMan-fv2ko Sorry for the late reply! Thank you for watching our videos! Technology has really come a long way and Yamaha has done a fantastic job developing technology for their pianos. I will make a note about comparing max volumes for the future, thank you for the suggestion! You are comparing two models from different categories. The CVP-809GP is the highest quality Clavinova whereas the N3X is the highest quality Avant Hybrid Piano (Digital piano with acoustic qualities in both keyboard action and cabinet). There is no doubt that the CVP-809 will allow you to explore more genres and have more technology onboard for exploring your creative endeavor. There is also no doubt that the N3X is meant to deliver a more "Real Grand Piano" experience without having an acoustic instrument. They both have pros and cons depending on what you are hoping to get out of your piano. Hello! First off, thank you for the great reviews, your channel has been a really good comprehensive source of information that's helped me learn more about pianos in a way I didn't think was possible without experiencing them first hand for myself! Anyway, I know it's been a year since this video was published and my comment might not reach anyone here, but I was hoping somone here would help me in making the purchase decision between the Yamaha GB1K Acoustic Baby Grand and this N3X, they both seem to take up the same space, but I'm torn on which one is better, on one hand an acoustic instrument always seems more authentic whether it be fuller in sound or more genuine in the action feel, but it also comes with less sound options and the hassle of maintenance and tuning all the time.. While a digital one seems more appealing in the sense that it offers more options and sounds and is obviously easier to maintain, but it also seems less authentic no matter how good the sampling technology and the simulated hammer action gets, yet I might be wrong because I've never tried the N3X out specifically for myself. What are your opinions? I would really appreciate your input.

I very much believe that the Yamaha AvantGrand N3x is the best hybrid grand out there for the price, playability, and tone. Some might argue that the Kawai Novus NV10s is the cream of the crop which might be right. However, considering that the Kawai is way more expensive with very little to show in superiority, I still this Yamaha is a clear choice. The only thing I wish is that the Yamaha AvantGrand N3x should have more sounds in the same category as the Yamahas S. Articulation2, now that would be a killer :) As for the demonstration, may I add, the clarity and presentation are brilliant. Would you be so kind as to demonstrate the Yamaha AvantGrand N1x please as I'm in the market of one of these having moved to a smaller place and no longer have space for my Yamaha C5X Grand which my sister will be enjoying at her place LOL :) Thank you kindly whilst await for a demo on the Yamaha AvantGrand N1x. Excellent description of this hybrid piano from Yamaha. To record the sound, was the same microphone used here and placed in the same way and at the same distance as in your video of the acoustic Yamaha S6X?

Thank you Samuel! Up to this point, I have used the same mics, with the same distance, and mounted them to my camera. For videos moving forward, I will be using higher quality condenser stereo mics when recording pianos :) Probably Shure condenser mics. - In other words, yes this is the same as the S6X video! The mics used when recording my friend, Matthew Lorenz, were higher-end condenser stereo mics (Rode M5s). Thank you for watching! - Josh

@@PopplersMusic I was asking you that because there is a very noticeable difference in the sound quality of the two pianos. The sound of the S6X is clean and perfect; on the other hand, that of the hybrid N3X is a much more murky sound. I think that's due to the small size of the hybrid's speakers, which are tiny compared to the huge, thick and dense soundboard of the other piano. The imperfections and irregularities of the sound of small speakers are detected by the microphones when recording, but I think the human ear, listening to those speakers directly, cannot easily detect them, although it can appreciate a certain difference compared to the other piano. Probably if the hybrid speakers had a size of 15 "it is certain that the difference in quality with the S6X would be much smaller.

Samuel, it sounds like you have a well-trained ear as you can hear the differences between piano models. This is great! Keep in mind, the S6X and the N3X are so vastly different piano models. Technology has come a long way, Yamaha is a leader in the industry in regard to their acoustic pianos, and pianos that have technology. However, there will always be a quality difference between the best quality, premium, handmade piano models, and pianos that have technology to produce sound. Being you watched these videos, I know you are aware of huge difference, just a reminder :) - Josh

@@PopplersMusic To be honest, I have the help of some good headphones when I listen to these piano videos on KZbin (but even without headphones the difference can be clearly perceived). Yes, they are two very different types of piano. Some people believe that hybrids will get so much improved and refined in the coming years, and their use will become so widespread that poor quality pianos will disappear, at least in Western countries. Even despite the limitations that hybrids have. A high-quality grand piano like a Yamaha SX series, like the magnificent S6X in the other video, or even one from the CX series of your other videos (I thank you for them), will always be the optimal choice, of course. It seems that the alternative to grand pianos in 21st century for reasons of space, noise or price is no longer uprights, but hybrids. In fact, in music education institutions, I think hybrids are already replacing uprights.

Hi! There is something I am uncertain of and would appreciate if you could elaborate. In some parts of the video you say that the action is the same as that of a baby grand and in others that it's the same of a concert grand. But they are not the same thing, the action on a CX grand is better than the one on the baby GBs. Am I mistaken or misunderstanding something? Thanks :)

Thank you for asking this question! When Yamaha teaches their dealers/piano experts the term "grand piano action" is used often. Moreover, using the term "concert grand piano" is also used often. Because of your question, I asked one of the best Yamaha technicians in the United States what the difference is for the Avant series... Here is the answer: "N series technically each have their own action design. But the key length could be comparable to their acoustic counterparts. The N1X key length is equal to what is used in C1-C2 side keyboards. The N3X has the C3-C5 size key length. The longer key has slightly more control."
